Borders To Revise Return Policy - Summer 2008?

Starting this summer Borders will be changing their returns policy so that those without a receipt will not be accepted at the discounted rate of 30% off retail - previously these returns were accepted for 100% of retail is it was an item currently stocked by that specific store.

bearkiss 04-30-08 09:02 AM

this summer? when does that end up being exactly?

and thanks!

RustyOrgan 04-30-08 09:27 AM

I'm not sure - I'm waiting to see an official press release. Apparently the memo went out to stores yesterday?

Sweet Baby James 04-30-08 09:40 AM

Thanks for the skinny, Rusty. I'm actually relieved. I really thought that they were going to do away with receiptless returns altogether.

"...those without a receipt will not be accepted at the discounted rate of 30% off retail..."

What? I can't make sense of what was said by the OP? Receiptless returns will soon only be worth 70% of MSRP instead of 100%? Wasn't their current policy to refund the sale price of an item if it had been on sale in the past 30(?) days?

Rusty will have to clarify this, but I think he meant to type now be accepted ... .

rehmus 04-30-08 10:52 AM

the real amazing thing is taht they havent had this policy all along. also, that they're not beginning it immediately.

RustyOrgan 04-30-08 11:00 AM

Yeah - It should have read 'now'

Peep 04-30-08 11:37 AM

Thanks for the clarification. Will the returned items still need to be in stock at the store in question?

RustyOrgan 04-30-08 02:07 PM

Yeah, the items presented for return must be currently stocked by that specific store after which a store credit will be issued reflecting 30% off MSRP.

Hey Rusty, could you change the wording in the original post to clear up any confusion. I was tripped up as well until I read through the thread.

Thanks for the heads up on this.

will NOT be ?

ETA : Oh, will NOW be, right ? I was confused at first.

ETA again : If you're going to edit your post to correct that be sure to correct the last sentence. I'm sure you meant IF not IS.

whotony 04-30-08 04:16 PM

when is the first post going to be fixed?

I've heard rumors of a fix in Summer 2008.

Never mind. I got my memes confused....

bhauge 05-02-08 01:09 AM

Will it be 30% off retail even if it sold for less at some point in the past? I'm not talking about things like the 40%-off coupon, but for those special price sales like Pan's Labyrinth: SE for $8.99 (pre-Thanksgiving sale).

Kocheese99 05-04-08 03:01 PM

Just got back from Borders and they said that if you return something without a receipt it will be 30% off the lowest price in the past year. Also it looks like this will start in about a week. At least thats what the cashier said.

kaze0 05-04-08 05:17 PM

They've had some really liberal return policies. I had did a buy 2 get 1 free and planned on returning all 3 and the cashier told me to keep the free one. That happened twice.

Thanks for the intel!

Looks like the gravy days are over with this and the end of the Amazon.com partnership on gift cards. :(

Gizmo 05-11-08 03:53 PM

Just returned some DVDs...got full MSRP (minus a boxset that was on sale at 20% off)

BuckNaked2k 06-08-08 08:37 AM

Are there any reports from the field on this?

You made me nervous with bumping this thread. I thought for sure that someone posted that the change has taken effect. I'm going to do one last receiptless return in the next couple of days. I'll post my results then.

ScissorPuppy 06-26-08 08:45 AM

Any word on this?

Sweet Baby James 06-26-08 09:27 AM

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to make my return because my local Borders doesn't currently have the items in stock. Once they do, I'll make the return and update my findings in this thread.
