I did a receiptless return at a Borders about two weeks ago, and got a full price refund on a gift card.

Ok well anyone had a return of late?

I had a legit return today. I received the 5th Harry Potter film as a gift w/o receipt. I already had it so I returned it to borders for credit. I had no problems at all. They didn't mention any change of policy at all.
I dunno, maybe this is only at select stores to test out? |

Lowest sale price from the past year which was 19.99. No 30% off
|
Did it have the Borders price tag on it?
|
Heads up, but looks like the NJ stores changed their return policy as of 6/23. There were taped on signs on the front doors indicated a revision of the return policy starting June 23rd (no returns unless with a receipt or gift receipt, and it must be within 30 days).

So i guess no return w/o receipts for anythink?

Very sad news.

In NorCal, the two closest Borders to me are no longer allowing returns without a receipt...

I called the 4 Borders in my general area yesterday and they are all still giving out gift cards for receiptless returns. I stopped by one of them last night and had absolutely no problem whatsoever with my return. I also received full value for the return(no 30% deduction). |

Okay - I registered for this message board simply so I could respond to this thread because I came across this randomly today. I've been using Borders "receiptless" policy a lot to return books over the past year and I'll be crushed if they change it.
That said - I think I can help shed some light here. I know that some Borders locations (like the ones in New York City) are, and have always been, super-strict about receiptless returns. It's hard to do in these locations. Even if the item you are returning is present in the store at the time of return. I also know that the Borders locations near my parents' home in upstate NY have much more liberal and relaxed policies and I have never had even the slightest of issues returning anything there. Despite the fact that Borders company policy on receiptless returns is stated on the website, it seems like individual stores have some kind of leeway to create their own policies. So instead of freaking out that this is going to be a massive thing that Borders will do nationwide, it's probably a continuation of what their current policy seems to be...which dictates that individual locations can have some say on what their in-store return policy is. It would be very unlikely for Borders to go from having a very liberal return policy to having a very strict one overnight. Even Barnes and Noble, whose return policy is far stricter than Borders, allows for receiptless returns. That's my two cents. Just wanted to add that to the discussion. I happen to know entirely too much about this stuff. |
i dont see a problem.
why should any store be expected to take returns without a receipt? |

because they don't when or IF you bought it.
most stores have a 30 return policy wit a receipt, some longer. if you lost the receipt, too bad. |
It would seem that September 21 will be the change in policy date.

They no longer will accept receiptless returns & all returns are now to be within 14 days & not 30 days. |
I was at the Borders in Sunset Hills (St Louis area) and was told at check-out that a new return policy would be going inot effect on Sept 21. This cooincides with what Sweet Baby James posted above.

Starting September 21, 2008 the Borders return policy is "No Receipt, No Return"
