Not many candidates to buy that company. The only two I can think of are barnes & noble and books-a-million. Seems like B&N wouldn't have much use for them and would only buy them to eliminate a major competitor. B-A-M probably doesn't have the financial means, even if they desired to buy them.

Just total up all your gift cards beforehand. Go to the cashier and ask to buy a $xx.xx gift card, and then pay with all your current gift cards.

No hassle, no returns to deal with, no explanation that will probably just confuse the help.
I was unable to do this. The mgr said you couldn't pay for a gc with other gcs. Did the policy change in the last month or so?

Haven't heard anything, did it myself a couple weeks ago. Your manager may have been misinformed.

I've had trouble doing this the couple of times I've tried in the past. Maybe there is a difference between giftcards bought and ones received for returns without a receipt.

Buy something expensive with your gift cards, then return it. Then you'll get one gift card back.

I think you're talking about two different things.

You're right. There was no quote, so I made up a context for his question. Either way, the post before yours should provide a solution to that problem.

Any updates on this?

I have a few Borders GC's I've been holding onto waiting for an Amazon BOGO, but I'd rather burn 'em now if I have to while $1 = $1.50!

If you don't mind me asking, what does this mean?

I think he just means that the prices are so much better at Amazon, you get more of your money's worth using your Borders gift cards there.

You are correct Sir.

I don't know what the exact ratio is, but a lot of what Borders sells is at MSRP + tax. At Amazon, nearly everything is discounted and there's no tax.

Here's just one example:

The Fifth Element (Remastered) [Blu-ray] (1997)

Price at Borders B&M: $28.95 + $1.74 = $30.69
Price at Amazon: $14.95

In my example, $1 at Borders = $2.05 at Amazon.com.

Did you factor in the 30% discount which Borders offers pretty much every weekend?

So what? It's still a better deal at Amazon.

Also, I believe those coupons can be used on only one item per visit.

I was able to use my Borders card last week on Amazon, no problems.
But I would recomend using it soon before the relationship ends.

That is hardly enforced. Most clercks will make separate transactions if you have more than one item and coupon.

Really? I did not know that.

Those 40% off coupons are pretty sweet......anything less and it's really not worth it.

We're sorry. We're unable to apply this claim code. Please note that Borders gift cards can only be used to purchase Borders items.

Try again:

Empty your cart.

Log on again at www.borders.com

Repeat the shopping/check out, and it should allow you to use your card.

It Could Be Over?

Being that it's now May 1, I decided to get a move on and use my remaining gift cards at Amazon. www.borders.com still takes you to Amazon's site. However, I've tried several times to place an order with my Borders gc and I keep getting an error. If I remove the gc and place the order with my MasterCard, the order is processed as it normally would. I'm hoping that it's a temporary glitch and I'll try again in the morning, although my hopes aren't too high.

^

Still not working this morning. I emailed Amazon and received this reply-

Thanks for writing to Amazon.com.

From your mail I understand that you are trying to place order with Borders gift card.

We accept Borders Gift Cards as payment for your Borders.com order; however, we are unable to accept paper gift certificates which were issued at a Borders store or Borders.com gift certificates that begin with 120X.

If you have a question regarding your Borders or Borders.com gift certificate, please contact Borders.com customer service for further assistance:

Phone: 1-800-770-7811
E-mail: [email protected]

I hope this information has been helpful. If you have any further questions, please visit the Borders Gift Card section of our online Help pages:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...?nodeId=602598

Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.

Since it would seem that they are still taking Borders gcs, hopefully it is a temporary glitch. If anyone is able to place a successful order, please post it here. Thanks.

Were you placing an order for Borders items or trying to get Amazon stuff?

My first attempt was for a DVD(Borders item) and a video game. No dice. I then cleared my cart and tried to just do the DVD order. No dice. I have three different accounts at Amazon, so I tried to place the order on the other 2 accounts. No dice. When I enter the Border gc on the payment page and then try to proceed to the final checkout page, I get the error message. If I go back to the payment screen and get rid of the gc and choose credit card as the payment method, I'm able to go to the final checkout page with no problems whatsoever. I'm just curious to know if anyone is able to successfully place an order with a Borders gift card. That way I'll know that it has to be something unique to me.

^ Having the same issues.

Placed an order yesterday with no problem. Today it does not work. Thanks for the warning, Borders/Amazon.

it's not unique to you - I've also been trying all day - and been getting the exact same message... I have not called or emailed anyone... this could be the end... or just a terribly timed glitch!
