Netflix down......(?)
I haven't been able to get to their site in almost 24 hours. And every time I go there, it gives me a different EST on when it'll be back up. WTF!?

Netflix spokesperson Steve Swasey on why the Netflix website has been offline for more than 12 hours: "It's an unanticipated outage that we've been working on through the night."
http://www.cnbc.com/id/19932233
Company spokesman Steve Swasey said engineers are working to get the site back up and running by 12 pm New York time, but that there's no confirmation that the repair will be in place at that time.
The company subsequently moved its estimate for returning to availability to 2 pm New York time.
Swasey would not characterize the outage beyond calling it "unanticipated," and would not provide any details as to its cause.
CNBC Silicon Valley Bureau Chief Jim Goldman, who broke the story, says an outage of this magnitude could not have come at a worse time for the company.
"Netflix shares got hammered on its earnings news from yesterday; and got hit even harder after announcing plans to cut some of its key subscription rates. That was good news for consumers, but bad news for shareholders who might see a dramatic reduction in revenue," Goldman said.
"But an outage for a company that does all its business online is adding insult to injury, especially with rival Blockbuster running ads about how it offers both an online and brick-and-mortar retail strategy for consumers," he said.
"We hope to have it back shortly," said Netflix's Swasey.

this morning the site said it would be back up at 9am, now it says 1pm pst.
The only other time I have ever seen this has been late at night for scheduled maintenance (I think usually on a Thursday or Friday night).

I'm just glad that all my movies were sent out by them yesterday as I'm sure this would effect them sending out anything today. At the very least, this is a good excuse for them not to mail anything out today, effectively throttling everyones account nationwide for one day saving them a load of money.

and now they have removed the time altogether:

Yeah, A LOT more than 12 hours. As I said earlier, I haven't been able to access the site since noon yesterday (EST). And who knows how long it had been down prior to that. In the 10 plus years I've been online, I've never seen a site down this long.

And, if they don't ship anything out today they save a ton of money by throttling accounts by at least a day with little to no repurcussions. Who's going to cancel their account just because their discs weren't shipped for one day? There's really little to no risk to them and nothing but reward for doing this for one day. In fact, I think that if this were indeed an "unanticipated" outage, that the lesson they will learn from this is that it was a blessing in disguise for them and we'll see more of this in the future, but they won't exactly be "unanticipated" outages.

The site being down this long is completely ridiculous and unacceptable. I think all the members with unlimited rentals should order 4 DVDs at a time (just any random movie you really don't care to see), then return all 4 the next day. And repeat for about a month. Sure, Netflix probably won't lose any money. But it would be fun
OK, maybe fun for just me

I plan on voicing my opinion once they are back online, though...

The last time I was with netflix they had a minor glitch that put a major smile on my face.
A small portion of members had the good fortune of being sent all there movies on there want list at one time! Luck me had over 200 titles that got sent all at once. In two days my mail box was stuffed with dvds that would make anyone wet there toughskins with glee.
ps...on the sad side I had to retire my burner to the big scrap pile in the sky.
