How in the world do you cancel an order from Deep Discount?

I placed an order from Deep Discount on July 15, but I want to cancel the order as it's taking entirely too long to ship. The status is "processing", but there doesn't appear to be any way to cancel the order. Does anyone know what I should do? Am I missing something?

So there's no way to cancel an order without contacting customer service? Lame.

Unfortunately, no. I think you are talking like Amazon right?

Yes, that's exactly what I was looking for.

Of course I called them and they said they couldn't cancel it. Then I asked why it didn't ship within the promised two business days. The CSR said it was probably backordered. I said that that was not indicated on the item when I placed the order. She didn't have an answer for that.

I'm never ordering from them again.

Wait, they REFUSED to cancel your order? What sort of shit is that?

Well TB, you can join the great many of us who think that DDD sucks and won't order from them again.

I think it's time for your CC company to get involved, personally.

The answer to the question "How do you cancel an order from DeepDiscount?"

Answer: You can't!

I have not been able to cancel an order since they became deepdsicount. No matter how long before it ships, they just say its too late.

Yeah, if the order is in a certain stage, they can no longer cancel it. All you have to do is return it once you get it. You aren't stuck with it, and they pay for the shipping back to them.

Yeah, that's basically what she said. We'll see if it actually ships today.

And, if you do this too many times they ban you. I am speaking from personal experience.

I had this happen to me a while ago. The nice thing about these types of returns, is, you just have to write "return to sender" on the box (DON"T open it!) and put it back in your mailbox. At least, that's all I had to do.

I just got off the phone with DDD because the order still has not shipped, despite yesterday's CSR assuring me it would. Basically I was told that once the packing slip prints, the order cannot be canceled, and oh yeah, they have no idea when it's actually going to ship. It could be next Friday for all they know.

I'm disputing the charge.

Atta boy TB. What a ridiculous justification. Why not just print packing slips for every order to prevent any cancellation whatsoever? The only way these companies will learn is my hitting them in the wallet.

I also wish that DVD Talk would review it's relationship with DDD, given its treatment of this forum's members and shady business practices.

I don't understand why you need to dispute the charge. Just tell them you are going to return it, and then return it. It costs you nothing, and is pretty painless.

The only times I've tried to cancel any part of an order was when the title was OOS and listed as "On order". In a recent example, it was taking too long and I called them and they were able to cancel the title immediately- this was an item from the recent Wellspring catalog sale. They sent me an e-mail within minutes with confirmation; so far I'm not experiencing the problems that most others seem to have had. In only a day or two later I saw the item was back in stock.
I've had no success at DVDPlanet; their left hand doesn't really know what their right hand is doing. They told me my order was cancelled (a morning phone call regarding the previous night's order) and a couple days later I got a shipment notice.

Because they dicked me around and lied to me. If a company has a written policy of shipping in-stock items within 2 business days, and it's now 5 business days later and they won't cancel the order and apparently have no way of knowing when the order is going to ship, I get pissed.

Why should he have to do this? Seems like an awful lot of unnecessary effort for a issue on their part.

writing "return to sender" is an awful lot of unnecessary effort? In the end, I think contesting it with your credit card is going to be more paperwork than that.

And waiting weeks until he gets his money back? Why is this not part of the issue in your mind?

Exactly. For all the "information" DDD has given me, I might not even receive the package until August! Then I have to send it back to them and wait for them to process the return?

If I recall the process correctly, when you dispute a charge, your card issuer opens an investigation and you may have to fill out a formal request. If the item has been shipped or is in the fulfillment chain, then you'll probably lose the charge back because the investigation will take time (1-2 billing cycles) to reach the final decision although the charge may still show as pending. The protection that comes with these cards is meant to prevent an outright loss, non-delivery of merchandise or services paid for so if you receive the item they'll consider the issue settled.

Hmm, I guess that hadn't occurred to me, mainly because I'm not so destitute that a little missing money for a few weeks would cause me much grief. Plus, when I returned mine, I got credited pretty quickly.

I sleep well at night knowing that TB is challenging not because of a missing Jackson but due to the fact they have repeatedly lied to him and charged him for an order they appear to have no intent on shipping anytime soon.

It's not about the money in these situations. It's about making these companies change their business practices.
