DEEPDISCOUNT Shame on you
It looks like the 20% discount is getting closer, because Deepdiscount DVD just raised their prices. I was waiting for the June 20% discount and was holding back on my purchases, but now they screwed me. I was getting all of the classic 50 DVD packs they have. For months they kept the same price, and now the packs that were $13.17 are now $16.46. The packs that were $08.77 are now $10.97. I always bought a lot of DVDs from them and have always been a loyal customer, so when they do something unprofessional and sleezy like this, all I can say is SHAME ON YOU DEEPDISCOUNT. Check the prices of the DVDs you wanted and hopefully they didn't raises those prices before the 20% discount is announced. Signed, very disappointed.....

I'd give the benefit of the doubt until the sale actually starts. I start building a new wish list as soon as a sale ends and prices flucuate up and down often during the six months, a dollar here, a dollar there. Probably my item mix, but the changes from when I originaly added the items on release week always comes out in my favor by a few dollars. What bugs me are items that have been in my wish list for months are excluded from the sale and disappear from the site. I can't even included them with the order at DDD's regular price.

I really think a lot of this could be due to their "low price" promise. If somewhere had a disc for $12, they will make their price $11.99 and boom, lowest price. If the other place raises their price to $13, there is "no reason" for DD(d) to keep their price at 11.99 when they can still have the lowest price at 12.99.
As much as we complain, the company is still in business to make money, and a dollar here and a dollar there add up quickly. As much as i don't like it, i can't disagree with their strategy.

Technically, some states prohibit companies from raising prices right before a sale and then enticing consumers in with the sale. I don't know what laws govern online sites though.

Back on topic, most of the titles I have on my list (compared to their prices during the sale last November, I believe) have gone up, from $0.10-1.50. But Grounded for Life did decrease $0.15.

Enough with the sore loser election talk...spilled milk, spoiled grapes, whatever. Back to the point, I checked my DDD wishlist and I think a few prices did go up, but on the whoile nothing really noticeable.

I wonder .... do people regularly bitch at their supermarkets when prices go up and down?

And as has been said many times over -- if you can find these DVDs for lower prices elsewhere, buy them there. Or don't buy them at all. The 20% off sale is a nice thing that they do, but no one's forcing any purchases from anyone.

It's deceptive.
Raising the price, then marking it down with a "sale" is going to take advantage of the uninformed consumer, and annoy and drive away the informed consumer.
And the fact that this is apparently standard operating procedure for them is just terrible.

And yes, marty888, people complain endlessly about supermarket prices, at least here in Honolulu, especially if they've just recently moved here from anywhere on the U.S. mainland. Fortunately, a lot of them move back there when they discover how much more it costs to live here.

I really appreciate everyone's views about this situation. I have over 5,000 DVD's in my collection so I'm use to different vendors and their price fluctuations. I'm sorry if I appeared to come off as a whiner or cry baby that wasn't my intention. I agree that every company is in business to make money, and if we don't like the prices, then we don't have to buy their product or just go somewhere else. I started this post, and signed it as (Just disappointed). Yes, I will get over it.... Yes, I will once again sleep at night, and will stop beating my wife, children, and pets over this. I waited for the the 20% discount to buy what I really wanted and was just taken back when they raised the prices so close to the sale (circumstantial) maybe, but I felt it was more deliberate. I guess it wouldn't have been as bad if they raised their prices a month or two ago, but right before the sale was more disappointing. Thank you all for your responses, I really do appriciate your non-hostile, constructive feedback... Best regards....

Oh, by the way. One thing I did omit from my original post was to show that the original prices of the DVD's I wanted was $13.17 each. They're now $16.46 each, which is exactly 20% higher, so with the 20% discount (when it comes), then they sold it for the same price they had months ago. The fact that prices fluctuate is a fact of life, but exactly 20% higher, so they don't lose any profit from the 20% discount just appeared to be more devious than just a fluke. Thanks.....

Wasn't those classic 50 packs on sale? I ordered the Kung Fu and the Cult 20 pack because it was listed on promo page on DD.com that was linked from one of the posts on here at the beginning of the month.

I used to buy a LOT of stuff from DD, but not so much in the last year or two. I did notice that immediately before their last sale, they significantly raised the prices on many of their items, so I just did what other people have suggested... took my business elsewhere. I will stick pick up the occassional good deal from them, but it is the exception rather than the rule... What would help them greatly is devoting a little time to improving their customer service...
I would rather give my business to DVD Planet. They have the same parent company as Deep Discount and usually have the same sales (within a few days) with the added bonus of monthly coupons and frequent buyer points. Plus, they have always been quick to straighten any problems out with a phone call. Mark will get involved if there are on-going issues if you make him aware of them. AND, they pay about the best prices for used DVDs and using store credit beats paying out of pocket anyday!

DD runs so many sales, it is nearly impossible for me to keep up with the pricing. It really is as simple as if it is cheap enough for you when the sale goes on, buy it. If not keep looking.
DD didnt invent price manipulation. It is a fact of life. I dont like it either and if I catch it, the great thing is I get to decide if I purchase or not.

If they do another 20% off sale, all other sales will end before that and the regular prices on those previous sale items will go back to regular price. If you don't like the regular price, don't buy the product on the sale. Sometimes you can get great deals on the 20% sale, sometimes you can't and you're better off waiting for other sales through the year.
Why do we have to go through this EVERY time there is a sale???
I can't think of one single store out there that will double up on sale items.
