Trying to operate a profitable business? That's bullshit. I know plenty of online stores who DO NOT jack up prices just before a sale. They simply don't have as many stupid sales.

You don't have to be shady to operate a profitable business.

What DDD should do is make sure to advertise their prices are very low, and having sales should be rare on their part because they already have low prices.

It just looks like to me they are desperate for cash and could care less about the consumer (demonstrated a few times by the packaging of my DVDs which is why I stopped buying from them). If they can't get a large consumer base who purchase from them no matter what, then they obviously aren't doing business properly. Possibly signs of new management and new ownership. I remember when DDD didn't do such unethical business practices.
I agree with you that it's a legitimate complaint...as to whether it's ethical to raise the prices before the sale, well, it's possible that the suppliers (to DDD, as well as other online DVD merchants) raised their prices. DVDs after all are petroleum products, as are most plastics, and surely you've noticed the recent increases in gasoline prices (I just paid $3.21 per gallon at Costco; other places are charging $3.31 and more per gallon for Regular)...so, as in most businesses, when the cost of business (or, to business, if they're a reseller) goes up, so will the products (or services) they sell. You're probably right not to buy from them, if you find this so irritating. I'm not buying anything this time around because there's nothing I absolutely need to have, but by the time the next "big 20% off sale" rolls around, maybe there will be.

Also, I'm still in shock over paying $3.21 a gallon for gas...I may never be able to afford new DVDs again, 20% Off or not!

So you have evidence that they purposely raise prices just before a sale in order to dupe customers? Or is this wild speculation?

You would appear to be the only one. For someone that doesn't shop at DD anymore you would think you would have something better to do with your life then go into every DD thread and complain & ridicule people for wanting to shop there. Not everyone here needs to get the lowest price every time they buy something, while that is the goal sometimes it is more convenient to buy everything they want at once.

I don't visit the bargains forum as frequent as the past since I'm not buying as many DVDS, but it is evident you're either a negative or bitter person based on your recent post history. I don't know what you're trying to achieve by constantly belittling people in your posts unless you're suffering from lack of attention, but I highly doubt many people would take anything someone so negative and rude says to heart.

Have a nice day.

I didn't say you need to get a life so don't misquote me and try to start something. I said I would think you would have something better to do with it then go into topics and add nothing to them except say people are "dumb" or a "guiable biatch."

I'm not saying you can't share your opinion, whether it be positive or negative, obviously as I just shared mine professionally on your recent negative history towards DD and those that choose to shop there. If you don't like DD then tell why you don't and help people understand your reasoning and in doing so might convince one or two to take your stance or if anything give them something to chew on. Grouping everyone as a whole saying they are dumb for shopping at DD during the 20% off sale or otherwise is ignorant and rude. Not everyone has the same amount of money and time that you do.

Yes, I was taught to be nice and courteous to my fellow man. I have different opinions from people and have negative thoughts on certain businesses where I have had bad experiences, but I'm not gonna cry in every thread where someone chooses to the opposite of what I think. Try some constructive criticism instead of whining and throwing out juvenile remarks and people might actually care what you have to say. Until then I'm afraid you're going take your views on life to the grave without much support.

Anyhow, hope ya have a nice day regardless as I'm trying to visiting my family today.

I can't believe that some people get so mad and say that they'll never buy from them again when they almost always have the best price.
Bingo . . .

I do some pretty thorough research on the prices across a number of websites when I make up my "shopping list" for the DD 20% sales and, almost without fail, it always make sense to buy from DD over other sites.

For example, this time around I have been tracking 52 titles (I won't buy anywhere near that many, but I'm using that as the base to build my final list). Here's a few stats on the list:

- of those 52 titles, 7 can be found cheaper at another merchant
- not including 2 sets, the average amount saved by buying the 43 remaining DVD's from DD, over the merchant with the next cheapest price, per DVD, is $3.03
- for the two sets, the price savings are $10.85 and $16.18
- for the 7 that are cheaper elsewhere, the average difference between the that lower price and the DD price is $0.65 (not including one outlier that is $5.11 cheaper, that I am convinced is some kind of mis-price) . . . this also does not include shipping, which would be required in order to get the "cheaper" price in some cases
- buying all 45 titles from DD would save me $157.17 over the next lowest priced options
- buying the 6 titles from the other merchants would save me $3.90 over the DD options ($9.01, if you included the 7th, oddly-priced, outlier)

After looking at that, I really can't see how I could complain.

How dare you bring things like logic and facts and math into this! What do you think this is, a rational discussion?

Dumb? You're the one claiming that DD just raised all of their prices, which is complete bullshit. Maybe you should go to dvdpricesearch.com and look up the titles that are being posted by those "dumb people" in the DD sale thread. Let us know what you find.

John Wayne John Ford Film Collection was $52.95 at the start of the sale and dropped to $51.88 sometime on Friday. Although I bought it during last Fall's sale, I just wanted to see how better a deal it would have been had I waited. IIRC, it was $54.xx before discount during the last sale.

Now, the "Warner Tough Guys Collection" which I also picked up last November really had a price drop since. I know it was priced somewhere in the $43 range (before 20% off) but is now $30.57 here and $24 at Amazon. That's probably a universal price drop though.
