Yeah I just canceled mine. They never shipped mine the next day regardless of what store I went to. I can get more through Netflix without having to stand in line and use the gas driving to the store.

Doubtful. I've had the same problems with a day or two turnaround on mailers brought back to the store and I'm still easily doubling my disc/month average that I had with Netflix. During this last month I had 17 discs mailed to me by BBOnline and greater than that number of free in-store rentals (after their coupons). Sure the bugs are annoying, and in the long run unacceptable, but for now I'm enjoying the ridiculous system that they've put into place.

With Blockbuster I get them Monday watch them, return to the store the same night and get three more. Thursday they ship new movies only if I report they were returned otherwise they ship out late Friday or Saturday, which I am lucky if I get by Monday and this is with a shipping center in Tampa. Even worse is if I get them a day early then the expected delivery they take longer to return since I can report a shipping problem.

Oh yeah then in addition I get to wait in line of 6 or more at any given time since they never have more than two people working and usually only one at the register.

But with Netflix, while you are driving to the store, the Netflix subscriber can just stream a movie from their site.

Where I live, our large blockbuster is closing so we have to use smaller, more out of the way ones.

Each has their benefits, if you have a blockbuster close, I would recommend them over netflix (cause you are getting about twice as many movies)
If not, I would recommend netflix, as it is (from what I've seen) slightly cheaper and can stream movies to your computer. This is a new thing they have added, and when more and more people start utilizing it, I can see issues arising.

I, personally, have a blockbuster really close(1 block), and dont want to watch movies on my computer.

both are the same price.
i think the only price dif is the lowest available service, one is 4.99 the other is 5.99

I guess i'll just replace it. Lucky for me the dvd is cheap and not OOP.

That's why I've been a Blockbuster member for a while. Sometimes I quit and join Netflix for a month or two (to catch up on their less-mainstream titles).

Haven't had to quit Blockbuster yet, but I've joined and quit Netflix on two different occasions and was able to do it without any hassles online. Pretty sure they even tried cutting me a minor deal by e-mailing offers to try to get my business back too.

Someone feel free to correct me, but I think BB is pretty similar in allowing you to cancel easily online.

So overall, have people had a pretty good experience with Blockbuster Online? I've been thinking about joining either them or Netflix for months, and leaning heavily to Blockbuster since they've added the return in-store thing (I have a store so close I can almost see it out my front door). Is there anything I should know before I join? Are the in-store rentals with your return good on any movies, or are there restrictions?

Should I just stop thinking and join?

No hassle at all. I think Netflix will even let you suspend your account. And they both keep your queues active for a while so you can easily rejoin.

I really haven't had any unpleasant experiences with either. Every now and then (once every year or so) a disc will get lost in the mail and once or twice a year I'll get a broken disc in the mail, but neither has ever made me pay for them.

If anybody is into Asain cinema, I also recommend ehit.com (which I believe is a DVDtalk affiliate, so use their link to start up).

The in-store rentals are good on any movie in the store, including new releases. The coupon you get once a month for a free rental is good for a movie or video game, which is a good deal.

Might be worth your while to give them both a shot using their free trials. That way you can get an idea of how fast their delivery time to your area is, and how many movies you can get from each service per month. Just keep in mind that Netflix will respond to your requests ultrafast at first, and will give you the top movies on your queue every time when you first join. After awhile that will slow down and you'll be less likely to get your top movies if you're considered a "heavy renter."

My experience has been that the titles you get from the actual store (that you got free via the in-store return) will charge you late fees if not returned on time. But that hasnt really ever bothered me.

This may be a store-by-store policy too, cause i know someone has mentioned that not being the case at their store.

That's good to know. I wasn't sure if it was everything or if they restricted you to the older movies. One of my main reasons for doing this would be new releases.

That's not an issue for me either. I fully expected the in-store rentals to have the regular due dates, and as close as I am it's easy for me to keep up and return stuff on time.

I think I'm just gonna give Blockbuster Online a shot. It sure seems like a good deal. It's gotta beat renting in-store at least.

I recently swiched back to BBO from Netflix because their inventory seems almost as good (I transfered 95% of my queue) and Netflix was getting so slow with delivery. My huge problem with BBO now is that if you turn in the movie at the store there is a HUGE delay I turned in two videos on 1-14-07 and they just now recieved them. That is total bullshit. I'm just going to start reporting a problem on every disk i turn in in store.

Ok, they are really starting to piss me off. Last week they were excellent about shipping movies out after I turn them in at the store. This week has been horrible. I turned a movie in on Sunday, it's Wednesday now and still nothing has shipped. I tried the reporting the problem and it gives me an error saying the disc hasn't been delivered yet.

this happened to me, but not to that extreme though

they put an "expected arrival date" on each disk sent. If that date has not yet gotten here, then it wont let you report a problem.

My scenario. On a thursday or friday they sent me a DVD that had an expected date of monday. I recieved the video on saturday, watched it and turning it in store that night. Sunday I got on to clear it out my queue but it wouldnt let me cause the delivery date wasnt til the next day. I cleared the queue on monday, then tuesday they shipped the next one.

Dont know if that will help any, but does give you another scenario to refer to

Does that mean return to local BB store have your next movie shipped next day (as long as it is a business day)? Say you return it Monday evening, then next DVD is shipped sometimes Tuesday?

So far it seemed my next DVD is shipped if I report it as returned by not cleared queue or when BBO actually receives thed DVD.

I just noticed something weird. One of my envelopes came with a regular postage stamp both on the outside of the envelope, and on the return envelope. Instead of sending the disc back to the warehouse, it has a return address of a regular Blockbuster store here in town. Anyone ever had this happen before? I wonder why they do this.
