Wow, I had no idea it was getting this bad. Most of the items in my shopping cart before the sale stayed at the same price. There were a couple that increased slightly, a couple that actually decreased slightly and most stayed the same. Only those HBO sets I mentioned in my previous post changed significantly.

I guess I was lucky to pick a few good items!

Tales From the Crypt S4 went from $28.75 to $29.99
Smallville S5 went from $41.39 to $43.19

Nip/Tuck S3 went from $41.39 to $43.19

I had a feeling that DDD would update some of these prices to match Amazon. I was going to buy from Amazon because I didn't know when the sale ended. Glad I waited.

Lois & Clark S3 now 29.98 (Amazon 29.99)
Nip/Tuck S3 now 29.98 (Amazon 29.99)

Smallville S5 now 39.98 (Amazon 29.99). Still a better deal at Amazon.

On 11/10/06... there were 3250+ prices changes at DDD. Only 199 of them were price drops. What does that tell you?

Here is the list I took from bargainflix.com

(warning: have your popup blocker on!)

Also, seems to only work in IE, not Firefox..at least for me

That's interesting. Good think I didn't want any megasets, those jumped a lot.

None of my list went up today, most stayed the same, three went down since I last checked on the 9th:

FALLEN IDOL (CRITERION)
$23.89 (11/9)
$21.98 (11/11)

DAZED & CONFUSED (CRITERION)
$27.88 (11/9)
$24.61 (11/11)

THE OFFICE (First Season)
21.77 (11/9)
20.85 (11/11)

The unbought part of my wish list (and no I won't buy most of these, I just add stuff I'm considering) was at
4279.78 on 11/7, 4316.16 on 11/9, and is back down a bit (but still up overall) to 4310.06 today.

Sell! Sell!

Anyway...Yeah, DDD can do whatever they want with their prices. And I know it always happens that some studio or theme sales end just before the site sale, so that makes sense. But when that many prices go up, from such a varied set of studios and themes and formats, it definitely seems like there's something going on.
Some of the HD titles I'm checking have gone up, some have gone down. I havent' actually been in a Target since getting my HDA1, so I don't know if they even sell them.

That the sales that were scheduled to run until midnight on the 9th ended so
that the 20% sale could start?

they had over 3000 movies on sale right before the 20% sale? gee, i mustve missed that.
but seriously, that number of prices raised is pretty staggering. only about 10 of the DVDs on my wishlist were raised, but they were older titles, not anything that was previously on sale, or lowered to meet a competitor, or something that was coming off release week. so the question is why?

I saw price increases that were on DVDs that were not on a special sale before the 20% sale.

It just goes to show that they aren't jacking up the price on every big release [unless it's all a conspiracy to trick people into adding it to their wishlists]. I look at retail prices the same way I do stock market prices. One day they may go up, the next day they may go down. I always do a dvdpricesearch right before adding an item to my cart. If I don't like what I see, I leave it out. I never agonize over whether it's the absolute best price.

I put "The Real Cancun" in my wishlist last night and it was $5.65 (before 20% off). I was going to order it (a blind buy) with a few things that come out tomorrow. Now I see the price was raised to $9.03

UPDATE - now it's back down again, and I just ordered it - carry on....LOL.

I posted this in the sale thread but they are dismissing it there...

DeepDiscountDVD.com guarantees offering the lowest total price on any individual, in stock, DVD of any other online retailer of DVDs.

Now, they get themselves out of having to match prices on merchandise during the semi-annual sale but I believe that the prices should be (at least .01) cheaper than the next available retailer from the get-go.

They may have not raised prices as suggested in years past, but they certainly haven't lowered them to match their competition's prices this week.

Some examples:
History of Violence is $14.79 total at DVDPacific.com ($20.67 at DDD)
Six Feet Under the Complete Series is $181.28 total at BestBuy.com ($195 at DDD)
Smallville Seasons 1-3 are each $18.99 total at HookMeUpHomeTheater.com ($29.87 each at DDD)

These are just three examples of titles onsale at various B+Ms that I looked up.

I just feel that if they really want to stand by the first sentence in their promise then they should.

Do any fellow DVDTalkers feel this is too much to ask?
DDD employees?

I feel like it would be insane for DDD to scour every on-line DVD site and update their prices constantly. I'm sure they keep track of many DVD sites so they do have lower prices, but I DO think it would be too much to ask to expect them to keep up. That is why they price match! They may miss a price from some on-line retailer, that is why you can call them or e-mail them for a price match... That is their guarantee. Your first line says it.

DDD only guarantees lowest price of any on-line (US) retailer, they do not have that guarantee/pricematch with B&M retailers. Must have been a typo because you listed on-line retailers.

But my problem is that they will pricematch during the coupon period but not combine the 20% discount. Now, they should already have the lowest price on those items, but they don't because the coupon is going on this week.

What I meant to say if the mis-typed/explained line is that those items are onsale at various B+Ms so some websites (the store's with the sale ongoing and others to take sales away from those stores) have been adjusted.

There's no guarantee that there will be a "next big DDD sale", but if it does happen, it'll probably be around the middle of June.

Start checking the bargain forum in early June. Trust me, when the sale begins, you'll know it. The codes will be posted throughout the offical thread as they become available.
