I went back today to scoop up some more CDs and browse more in-depth. Much to my surprise, all of my CDs rang up as 50 percent off. Since I didn't buy anything else, I don't know if other items would've done the same or even if the CDs should've gotten that discount. But if that's the case, there's some other things I wanna pick up before they close their doors. Those are the types of savings I was expecting when I heard about all of this.

Yea, that's a good deal. Even if they were marked at MSRP. What kind of prices for what CDs? Could you list the price you paid for them?

I should note that these were used CDs. Even 50 percent off is nothing with the new stuff going for the MSRP. Anyway, I got...

- Notorious BIG: Ready To Die (remastered edition w/ bonus DVD)...$3.50
- Wreckx-N-Effect: Hard or Smooth...$1.99
- Raiders of the Lost Art (hip-hop comp)...99 cents
- Jay-Z: Vol. 2...Hard Knock Life...$2.50
- N*E*R*D: In Search Of...$2

Looking at the receipt, these prices don't really match up. The sticker prices aren't really reflected on the sales receipt before the discount is applied, but the figures about are rough estimates of what I paid.

Stopped by Media Play tonight. It was pretty busy. And the prices were still ridiculous, even with the all the store closing hype.

Sure, DVDs were 20 percent off. But because the sticker prices are so unbelievably high, even with 20 percent off they are still not competitive with other stores regular prices.

Example - National Lampoon's Vacation. Sticker at Media Play, $17.99. With 20 percent off, $14.39.

Best Buy regular price - $14.99.

60 cents less. Big friggin' deal.

And if I remember right, the sticker on the Highlander TV show sets was in the $80s. WTF?

No wonder it's going out of business.

My brother's friends wanted to check things out, so I made my third trip in two days a couple hours ago. With the knowledge of possibly 50 percent in savings, I stacked up some CDs, but found out from the girl working the counter that they were apparently having a sale earlier in the day where you got the discount if you bought seven or more (which was the case with me earlier in the day). I passed on getting anything since they were discs I'd only get if they were half of. Felt bad giving them extra work, but that's stupid that they'd have a sale like that come and go so quickly when they're supposedly wanting to move everything out now.

Yes, most definitely! I went out there this past weekend just to browse around, and their prices are still high, even with the alleged ten through twenty percent discount on CDs and DVDs. Their so-called discounts is a joke, because you'll still be paying regular price, and more for their merchandise. I went in, and seen that prices were the same, and I turned around, and went right back out the store...Empty handed.

20% off of msrp here which still stinks. Lot of DVDs normally at $27.99 if they're not on sale. Big surprise they can't compete

Everything was 30% off yesterday, but still didn't bring the DVD prices down to "great deal" status.

I still managed to spend $50 though, mostly on CDs.

I checked the store out again yesterday at about 7 PM. I have NEVER seen the parking lot so full. We went inside at it was ordered chaos. Everything that was in the new section for new CDs were picked clean. I found 3 used CDs and 1 new CD. Not too bad for prices after the discount and the GF had a $5 replay certificate that I applied to the total. 11.96 for 4 CDs is not too bad.

Be careful though as after I got home I found out that 1 of my CDs did not ring up correctly but of course they only got me for $1.50 so it isn't even worth it to go back.

Good luck but the place is pretty much picked over except for the DVDs because they are priced so high.

I'm wondering if the next discount increase will happen tomorrow? I'll be checking out the local one just in case. I went there a few days ago, DVDs, toys and CDs were 30% off. The toys were almost gone, but there was still plenty of DVDs and CDs (due to their high prices to begin with). For some reason, books were still just 20% off, and therefore there was still plenty of stock.

Up to 40-60% now. When they hit 50, I might actually buy something.

The 40% would be on the DVDs?

It was 30 to 50 percent off here yesterday, but today it was up to 40 to 60. Pickings are real slim now. They've taped off the used DVD/CD section and dumped remaining inventory in big bins. None of the CDs I wanted to come back and get were there, which wasn't all that surprising.

I did pick up the Bela Lugosi set for $15 new, though. I'm well aware that there are problems with this set and all sales are final, but I'm packed with my receipt and will check them out within the 30-day window, so be ready, Universal.

Another disappointment was the fact that all books will remain at 20 percent off. Despite huge signs proudly proclaiming that EVERYTHING was 40 to 60 percent off, the books were marked at 20. I picked up a couple just in case and asked the clerk, who said that they were staying at 20 percent since they could be sold back. Bah.

To top it off, the DVD shelving unit I had my eye on was only available in black, which would clash with the color scheme we've got right now. So yeah. I was happy to get those CDs a couple weeks back, but Media Play just goes out with a sour taste left in my mouth.

I went in last night to look around, and yeah, it's getting pretty cleared out. I still managed to spend close to $75, and for once it wasn't on just two or three things! Picked up like four cds, a PS2 game, King Kong on DVD, and an action figure (of which there was next to nothing left, to my surprise).

I may go back once more for the heck of it, but I'm not expecting to leave with much. Well, unless the discount goes much further and it's more worth it for DVDs.

Just about everything at the Cincinnati Mills location is a minimum of 40% off now, including books and electronics. I'm holding off on iPod and computer accessories (a Griffin PowerMate, specifically) for as long as I can.

TV sets are pretty well picked over, although I did snag a copy of Nowhere Man for $26, despite being told a week or so ago that they wouldn't be receiving any more new releases. I also saw a copy of Peter Jackson's King Kong Production Diaries for $22.19 after discount, but I have no interest in it.

Software is also 40% off, and there are plenty of copies of the new versions of TaxCut and TurboTax, if you want to get a big head start.

I went to the local store yesterday, and the book section was completely closed off (with many of the books gone). Guess they've started sending them back to the publisher or something and whatever was still there was no longer for sale. Too bad, I picked up a couple at 20% off last week, but I would have snagged a bunch more at 40% off.

I did pretty well - picked up The Wages of Fear: The Criterion Collection (new version), Videodrome: The Criterion Collection, and Naked Lunch: The Criterion Collection for about 22 bucks each. Also picked up a Joe Cocker CD and Radiohead's 7 Television Commercials pretty cheap. Keep searching - there are some pretty good deals to be had.

cheers,

-the Jesus

I picked up Peter Jackson's King Kong Diaries for 20.99. The problem is that it is sealed and looks nice so I don't want to open it.

I also found a Terminator 2 figure for $3.00 - so not a bad trip.

The book section is also completely closed off at the Western Hills (Cincinnati) location. The clerk told us that everything is being sent back to the publishers. There's not much left at this store...the DVD section is particularly barren.

The Cincinnati Mills location, however, has all books at 40% off, with clearance books at 60% off. It sounds like this store is one of the only ones with any discounted book deals.

Soon enough they'll have a stand set up outside on the sidewalk and that'll be it!
