Anyone ever ordered from boxedtvseries.com?
Sorry if this was already discussed but I searched on this forum and didn't find anything. I was wondering if anyone has ever ordered from www.boxedtvseries.com? Buy.com has a link to this site.
They offer a limited amount of boxed sets at greatly reduced prices, for instance the Sopranos season 1-5 is listed at $186.55. Their site says the DVD's are manufactured overseas under a license and may contain Asian writing on the discs and boxes but the DVD's are supposed to be in English.
Thanks

Sounds more than fishy. They are selling "asian" discs that are "region 0" for WAY less than you could find elsewhere. That definately screams bootlegs to me.
It also sounds like they don't come with proper cover art:
"Your order could come a few different ways: 1) A large display box
with a plastic binder and the disks arranged by season, sometimes the
seasons are out of order.. 2) All seasons in individual season display
boxes, could be individually wrapped or in plastic binder or sleeves. 3)
Season 1-4 in a single box set and season season 5 in a separate, smaller,
one season display box). Please don't ask me which way your order will be
coming, we never know. Remember, the reason your buying from us is to save
money. If you want to buy a pretty box or package, you will have to buy it
from one of the high priced sites."
Here is another oddity from their website:
"Question: Why do the number of DVD's sometimes vary in the sets?
Answer: We deal with several overseas manufacturers. Often times, they can produce longer running DVD's at a reduced price. When this is the case, they may produce and ship the sets with the longer running DVD's. It is a cost saving procedure for them. Unfortunately, this extra savings is not passed on to us or you. Also, we never know ahead of time if or when it will happen but we don't mind as long as they keep the overall prices low, so we can pass the savings on to you. Of course, this does not effect the quality of the sets in any way, whatsoever."
Longer running DVDs? I guess I don't quite understand what they are saying, but sounds like you could get fewer discs per season than you'd expect (so I'm assuming they are compressed and lower quality?).
IMO, this all sounds very shady.
