Bestbuy.com has poor packaging

Bestbuy.com shipped me 7 boxed sets recently. One of them came in a shipment by itself, and then the other 6 came in another shipment. I would have expected the shipments to arrive in boxes, but they actually came in those flimsy bubble-wrap padded envelopes. I was disappointed but not too shocked when the first set arrived, but then I couldn't believe it when I saw that they had put the other 6 sets into a huge bubble wrap envelope. The first set was fairly banged up, but the other 6 sets actually didn't suffer too much damage. But still, I am very leery of ordering from bestbuy.com again.

Does everyone else get their DVDs from bestbuy.com in those bubble-wrap envelopes?

It was more than a year ago when they shipped my single DVD orders in those plastic like padded envelopes. When I ordered a few DVDs including boxsets, they shipped them in boxes stuffed with crushed papers. Sometimes those boxes are a tight fit for the content, making it vulnerable to rough handling.

From then onwards, I simply go to the store to buy it, or do a in-store pickup if it's a online special.

I don't mind the bubble envelopes so much for a single disc, but that's crazy for boxed sets! I've had boxed sets packed in boxes get smashed up, which is why I don't order sets online anymore. I can only imagine how badly damaged a set could get in an envelope.

So BB does the same insane thing of shipping expensive boxed DVD sets in a padded envelope thing as Walmart.com...YIKES. A couple of months back, when WM.com had Star Trek Voyager seasons 1-7 for an incredible 63 percent off (yeah, weeks later my mind is still reeling from the fact that for a brief moment in time the complete Voyager series had such huge discount), I received all seven seasons via DHL shipping in literally a regular plastic padded envelope. They sent me seven box sets with a combined MSRP of over $800 in a padded envelope that they probably did not have to pay for (it was a DHL envelope)...I am still amazed that they did this, and that the dvds survived the trip with no visible damage to the cases (although the packaging goes a long way towards explaining why the fast shipping was so cheap...).

I have X-Files season 4 being mailed to me from BB.com via the USPS, so hopefully this one boxed set can survive the trip (I was able to do an in-store pick up for the other 8 seasons). After reading this thread, I will be amazed if it arrives in a box.

Edited to add: The DVD set came in a padded envelope, but everything was fine, the mail carrier was able to place the package in my po box, and there was no damage to the case (and it sounds like there are no floaters).

It is amazing how many fairly expensive items are mailed in a padded mailer, and seem to get to their destination with no damage.

Regards
Christopher H

I ordered a CD/DVD set from them a month or two back, and they sent it in a padded evelope. The side was ripped open and the package was empty---and it was simply stamped "Recieved in damaged condition...love, the Post Office". I called their customer service, and some lady with a strong accent gave me the runaround. I gave up after a few more weeks.

Sorry I went a little off topic there, but hey, as long as we're complaining about Best Buy...

So you didn't get a replacement or refund at all? You should have demanded a resolution from their customer service within 2 weeks (like they had good service anyway), after that just reverse the charge with your CC company since you have the packaging with Post Office's "endorsement" on it. And let your CC company deal with them.

I've had mixed experiences with their packaging, lately it's been pretty good. For awhile it seemed like every shipment I received was damaged in some manner. I've had more floaters, or snappers with broken hubs, when I buy from bestbuy.com then from any other online retailer.

It seems they switched to cardboard boxes for single DVD orders, at least that's what I've been getting.

Bestbuy.com was actually supposed to ship me three packages. As I mentioned in my first post, I've received two of them, but the third one hasn't shown up yet. According to the online tracking, it arrived at the post office nearest my house over a week ago, but I haven't received it yet. So I went to that post office today to ask them about it, and they don't know where it is. I hope bestbuy.com will give me a refund, since they can easily check that the online tracking doesn't say "delivered" (the tracking for the other 2 packages says "delivered").

Anyways, I have to wonder if the post office would have lost it if it were in a box, instead of a padded envelope.

this happened to me with a amazon box (kind of the same thing) ..It said it was delivered to my house but it wasn't ...like 4 days later it just appeared ...I think USPS jumps the gun sometimes, or it actually went to somebody else's house and they were honest enough to bring it back to the post office so they would deliver it to me..
