how is Overstock.com?
Overstock.com has an item that I really need, and no other place has it. I'm wondering about their reputation. Anyone have any experience with this online dealer?

it's a videogame for ps2. pretty rare, actually. The only other place I've seen it online (aside from ebay, which I won't touch) is Amazon.ca, but they claim they won't ship videogames out of Canada.

hrmph. unfortunately, that item was out of stock by the time I finally went to order it. and it's OOP, so I don't think they're going to get it back like, ever.
Won an auction for that game on eBay though, and it's supposedly factory sealed. So, that's good.
Thanks for all the help anyway, guys! I'll keep this in mind next time I see a good deal at Overstock.

Looks like I'm in the minority, but I've had an awful experience with Overstock.com. I ordered seasons 1-5 of South Park (5 sets of 3 DVDs each). The sets arrived, but one out of the 15 DVDs was damaged and would not play. Unfortunately for me, Overstock only allows returns within 20 days of shipment. No exceptions under any circumstances. I was 2 days late.
I tried to explain that it takes time to watch 15 DVDs, but all I got in return was cut-and-paste sections of their policies, time and again, along with some fakey smiley bs about how much Overstock.com strives for complete customer stasifaction and how important I was to them (yeah, right). I tried and tried to get someone to be a little flexible and consider my circumstances, but it was as successful and satisfying as beating my head against a cinder block wall. 20 days was etched in stone for 1 DVD or 1,000.
Needless to say, I no longer have an Overstock.com account and will not be back under any circumstances. Beware and be 100% sure that you'll be able to fully test everything you buy in 20 days or less...

I have never had to return anything to Overstock, but I have heard that if you need to return anything to them, you might as well forget about it. I have heard that they are awful about returns. I only use them if the deal is too good to pass up, which has been twice so far. Thankfully both orders went OK.

Same here,I ordered 3 DVDs from Overstock, after a month without my item's I canceled my order because they where valentines gifts for my GF but they never showed and had to cancel, let's just put it this way after talking to about 10 clueless reps on the phone I got my money back a month and a half later and that was only because I sent them a lawsuit telling them I was going to sue, never went back there since.
Im not going to lie though I ordered many time's before this with no problem's,the worst thing about Overstock they will send your item's through the Postal Service which could take up to 3 week's to receive your item's,and if your ordering many item's there is a good chance that your item's will be shiped form diffrent place's so you never get all of your item's at once makeing it easier for your items to get lost.
My advice stay away,I have much better luck at Amazon, but hey that's just me,if it's just one item go for it.

I've had around 6 ot 7 orders with them, all but one of which went off without incident:
I ordered the "Time Out Film Guide" - which, as you might expect, is as large as a major city's yellow pages. Instead of shipping it in a "proper" box, they used one of those "envelope boxes" where they just put the book in the middle of some cardboard, pull the edges over and glue it together.. Anyway, the book fell out during shipping and the cover was *badly* damaged. No problem, right? It happens.
Well the RMA took around 6 weeks to complete and also took around 28 emails to get done. The problem was that I never received a UPS return label, nor would the automaton CSRs give me an RMA number and return address so that I could return it on my dime. After "re-issuing" the label like 12 times, I finally got it - only to find out that they were sold out of the book by that point.
I guess the moral of the story is that overstock is great - unless you need to return something.
