Can we stop with the Wal-Mart threads? (RE: Bargain Forum)
Please. Wal-Mart prices on DVDs are next to useless on new releases. The $5 bin threads are helpful but when everyone starts posting their local prices on DVDs it becomes annoying.

Well if they put YMMV, what's the big deal?
Someone in that posters area might not know and come on here and see the thread and say "Oh, I guess I'll go to Wal-Mart and save a buck or two."
But...whatever...

I agree with Popcorn, since the prices vary by store (even within a mile of eachother) there is no uniform pricing, which makes it pointless.
We have Neb. Furn. Mart in Kansas City and the original in Omaha. I don't bother to post their prices because of the extreme regional nature of the benfit of their prices....the walmart prices on new releases is even worse.

PS: One thing I love about this site is the mods do a great job of keeping it clutter free and focused. I get frustrated at some of the other HT sites, where you get a zillion threads on "what's the best $300 dvd player?" Then in the same day, "Which $325 is the best?" The forum gets clutter, no one bothers to search for info, people go there to become spoon fed information and some of the meaningful posts get knocked to the back pages. Not here and I appreciate that.

Popcorn is absolutely correct. Walmart pricing is useless because it only applies at that particular store out of the 1,000,000 or so Wal-marts out there. YMMV is useless too as that always applies at Walmart. The area also doesn't help for the reason mentioned by Shap.
If you know anything at all about your local Walmart, you already know what their price will be on a new release without even venturing into the store. The few people here who might benefit from the thread probably already know their local Wal-mart's pricing scheme anyway.
Posting a Wal-mart price here would be like me posting that Joe's Pawn Shop on 5th and Main in my hometown has _______ for $9.99. How many people would benefit from knowing that? One? (probably not even). Not worth a slot on page one if you ask me...

While I don't get to really contribute here often, I do agree that the Walmart one's are fairly pointless. To a newer person, they can be a little misleading I think.

The Wal-Mart posts are fairly pointless, as has been mentioned numerous times already.
Actually, the closest Wal-Mart to where I live (10 or 15 miles) actually has the worst prices on new releases. I never go in there for new releases because they are usually $19.99 (or a price equally poor).

If you are going to post a Walmart comment, just be specific of store location in the title. If I live in New Orleans and see a deal in NYC in the title, I would skip it immediately.
Bottom line...just be as specific as possible in the title.

Hold on. Did anybody else pick up Blade Runner for 3.88 some 3 or 4 weeks before Black Friday? I did and I am grateful to that thread. I hate clutter as much as the next guy and Walmart new release prices are subjected to YMMV but there can still be some need for a limited amount of Walmart Threads. Just my two cents, feel free to disagree!

What about the recent Walmart.com deal for The Rescuers? Even when they were sold out you could try to pricematch elsewhere. Do we need a post every week with new release prices? Probably not but some of the Walmart posts are highlighting good deals on Dvd's and people who might not shop at Walmart on a regular basis can decide if they want to invest their time looking for the deal.

I vote for leaving the WalMart threads as they are....i don't mind a treasure hunt thru the forums here for a bargain....and if a price at one location doesn't apply to my local Wal-Mart store, then i simply ignore it and move on....i don't see the big deal....it's like watching tv, if you don't like what you see on a station......turn the channel, but don't take away the opportunity for others to see it if they choose to spend their time differently than you do......and that's my worthless opinion
