Deepdiscountdvd.com problem

I have seen quite a few other problems with DDD here, but didn't see anything about this one I had.

Apparently I have been automatically enrolled in some shoppersrewardsanddiscounts.com program after placing an order at DDD about a month and a half ago. I found out after noticing a recurring $9.00 charge to my credit card each month. I am usually pretty careful when checking out and I'm pretty sure I didn't choose to sign up.

I called the shoppersrewardanddiscounts.com customer service and they are the ones who told me i was signed up through DDD. When I spoke to her to inquire, she was almost automatic in beginning to tell me what the service was, which I found odd.

Anyway, she refused to reverse the charges but happily cancelled the membership. Still, I'm out $18. Anyone else have this problem?

After you place an order, NEVER click on any link about claiming a prize. That's the sneaky way that they get you(clicking on the link is tantamount to enrolling in the so called club). I have very little patience for this tricky crap.

Nothing new about this with DDD. It has happened before and there are some threads around on the topic. You must have accidently clicked a link that they have on the order confirmation page that mentions a special offer if you click it. I'm surprised DDD is still allowing these up sells, as they called them on their site, without some safeguards to prevent accidental enrollments. It's disgusting to think they continue to allow another company to grab your credit card and personal information with only one click.

I had a similar experience at DDD a few years ago when they started using pop ups on their site whenever you completed an order. I accidently clicked it and was enrolled into a book club. My credit card was charged and I had to return an enrollment package. I was able to get the charges removed but it wasn't a pleasant experience, and of course DDD didn't offer any help even though it happened on their site. If you haven't tried I would suggest disputing the charges with your credit card company immediately. I think you have up to 60 days to do so.

Thanks for the replies. I will definitely be following up. I guess I must have clicked on something and ended up tricked by these guys, much like the other threads.

You should also try to contact David Barker at DDD (VP Ecommerce Marketing) and inform him what happened. Sometimes he posts at DVDTalk, and maybe he will see this thread and respond. I do think someone higher up needs to hear about this to know there is still a problem with these links on their web site. I would avoid customer service since they will blow the whole incident off. Good luck and let us know what happens. Hopefully you still can dispute the charges.

Wow, I seen those links before and I never knew they could get all of your information with just one click! Thankfully, I never clicked the link.

When you click on the link, you should read.

It states that you will be charged.

any chance you'll post that customer service number here? (assuming it isn't against the forum rules)

I received a response to my complaint from the Shoppers Rewards program in which I was enrolled. They seemed to be understanding, saying that I was enrolled because I clicked on their link. However, due to the misunderstanding they would be providing a refund for the membership charges.

Still, did not hear anything from DDD.

Glad to see at least Shopper Rewards has changed their minds about a refund. They wouldn't have had a leg to stand on if you disputed the charges.

But I can't say I'm surprised that DDD is avoiding you. You can try calling customer service but they will more or less do nothing. I didn't get any help until I confronted David Barker on the forum when a thread compalining about these accidental enrollments at DDD was posted.

Personally I wish they would remove the links for the offers since I have zero interest in them. But at least they should do more to prevent accidental enrollments from happening in the first place on their website.

I don't know their number but it shouldn't be violating any forum rules to post it. Part of the purpose of the store forum is to supply information and offer help in resolving problems with a store or business.

Here is DDD number. It's in the Customer Service Thread on this same forum. (I don't see why it would be violating forum rules when it posted elsewhere on the forum).

Maybe I misinterpreted what Mhepburn20 was asking but I thought it was the number for shoppersrewardsanddiscounts.com.

Probably is; not sure.

As that user did not quote what he was speaking of, but I could be totally wrong...

Here is the response I received from DDD in regards to my compaint (copied and pasted directly as it appears in my inbox):

Thank you for contacting DeepDiscountDVD.com!

Dear value customer,

In response to your recent e mail, Unfortunately, there nothing we can do
about shoppersdiscountsandrewards.com. We have nothing to do with this company
there just on our web site. You will have to click on them to enroll yourself
into there program. We don't just enrolled you in this program. Yes, there is
something they should do about it refunding you your money. Sorry!
Again, thank you for writing DeepDiscountDVD.com. We appreciate your business.

What a pathetic response from DDD! There on their site but they have nothing to do with the company? Accidental enrollments go on for years through DDD's website and they can do nothing about them? Even though I'm not surprised at the e-mail it does contradict what David Barker said a few years ago about offering help for anyone accidentally enrolled into one of these offers. I cut and pasted a few choice statements.

Anytime someone has inadvertenly signed up for an offer and notified us we have contacted our marketing partner and had the charges reversed that same day. If it is determined that any of these charges came from an upsell at DeepDiscountDVD.com we assure you that the charges will be reversed immediately.

It's pretty pathetic when a professional company can't even get "there" and "their" right. (sorry, this kind of stuff bugs me

I had many positive experiences with DDD until recently. They made a mistake wiht overbilling and failed to correct the situation. So I disputed the charges with my credit card company. After that, I received two childish responses from DDD customer service.

I'm glad my hands are clean with DDD.
