Amazon.com Account Hacked

Make sure to check your Amazon.com accounts.

Mine got hacked shortly before midnight. Received an email from Amazon that said I had succesfully changed my email address and password. Sure enough, I tried to log into Amazon and I couldn't.

Somebody with the email address of [email protected].

Spent 40 minutes on hold with Amazon before finally getting a rep that barely spoke english.

After about 15 minutes of him "checking" on things, he comes back and tells me the email that I received was spam and that my account was ok. I said ummmm nooo, I already checked and my account had been hacked.

He then tells me to just set up a new account. I said, uhhhh, my account has all of my credit card and bank account information in it that the hacker now has access to.

Finally after another 10 minutes, he says he can change the password on the account. So, finally I was able to get back into the account and change the email address back to mine.

Are you still going to cancel your credit card that was on the account?

Looking at the account, it doesn't look like they can access the actual credit card card #'s. The account only shows the last few numbers of a credit card.

I will definitely keep an eye on my credit cards for unauthorized charges though.

Er...this sounds bad. I'm sorry to hear your woes, and you do have my symphathies, but I hope for all our sakes that this was just a random event.

No, but someone could still order a bunch of stuff, and ship it as 'a gift'. Granted, it would be relatively easy to trace, but still a pain in the ass to deal with.

No -- not really. Whenever you add a NEW address onto your Amazon.com account, they require you to RE-ENTER the credit card number in order to ship to that new address.

Plus, the Amazon rep changed the password on the account for me and I was able to regain access of my account within 1 1/2 hours of it being hi-jacked.

I also made sure that they didn't make any orders or change any information in my account.

BDHart, I'm somehow on your STL list (I have been for a while because you sent me love for something here on these boards), and I recently got love from you for Nip/Tuck Season 1 and Lost In Space Season 2 Volume 1. Just letting you know in case you didn't actually order those.

Well that was a close call. I finally found out what the hacker did on my Amazon account. I recently sold some DVD's on my Amazon seller's account. I went to transfer the money from the sales to my checking account today and saw that the hacker had changed it to their checking account for payments.

I'm glad I checked that today as it would have automatically transferred tomorrow

I just called Amazon to let them know that the Hackers checking account info was on my account and hopefully they will be able to track the hacker down.

Very scary stuff. Hopefully they can catch the person that hacked your account. Is it possible the hacker could have gotten enough information about your checking account to take money directly out of it also?

I don't think so. It only shows the last 5 digits of the checking account #. So now I have the last 5 digits of their checking account too.

It's really none of my business what you order and receive. Everybody is free to do what they want in their own privacy.

I'm sure as heck glad you didn't STL me on that order though!!!
