D-Link and the rebate battles

Does anyone else ever have a problem with D-Link rebates? I've had three, and they've fought me on all three rebates. Typically, I send in the rebate, get a postcard back saying it was rejected, then I call up and complain. Much of the time they're rude and hostile when I call up.

Personally, I think they're hoping people don't care enough to complain, or that people don't keep copies of their rebate forms / UPCs. Luckily, I always do. But even with that, they flipped out on me one time because they swore one rebate didn't exist. Three weeks and several Best Buy representatives later, I got my $20. It's the principal, you know?

I had no problem with a couple of rebates from D-Link. YMMV.

They must just not like me then. Some of the things they say and do make me a bit suspicious though. For instance, the other day I got a rejected postcard. I called up and asked why. the woman told me "you applied for a rebate that was not active at the time of purchase." So I asked "what rebate number do you have?" She refused to tell me until I pressed the point. Finally she told me and I said "well, actually I applied for rebate 4128 and not 4235 according to my copy of the rebate form. Would you like me to fax you a copy?" Her response: "oh, you have a copy? Well I'll change it then and you should expect a check in 6 weeks)."

"Oh you have a copy" made it sound fishy to me. those were her exact words.

Yeah. A copy of all the stuff you submitted is essential in a rebate battle.

I just received a rejection postcard for a Symantec product as they claim that I did not include the UPC/PoP. Of course, I did. I can't imagine those morons could miss a 1"x1.5" yellow PoP flap. Time to dig out my photocopy and wage the battle!
