DDD shipping getting slower and slower?

Hi all,

Has anyone noticed a significant increase in the time that DDD claims (if you even GET the shipping confirmation e-mail) they shipped and you receive your order?

I always use the free shipping option. Perhaps I have become spoiled since I live in St. Louis and always seemed to have my items within 3 or 4 days. The last two orders have been 7 or 8 days.

When ever I preordered an item they usually would send it out on Thursday and I would get it on Monday or Tuesday. The last order shipped on Tuesday 9/16 a full week prior to the street date and I still did didn't have it by yesterday the 24th!

Apparently they use the same fulfillment center in Illinois that drove DVDPlanet into the ground with the exact same issues.

Yup. For preorders, they would ship about a week in advance and I used to get it by or around the release date. Now it's 3 - 5 days after the release date.

My last two orders from DeepDiscountDVD have actually arrived quicker than the two weeks I usually expect. So for me it seems to be getting quicker. But really, I think it's just extremely variable.

And don't foget the USPS plays a big role in when media mail is delivered - I've had orders that shipped a week apart arrive on the same day, rubberbanded together. Clearly one of them had been sitting somewhere in the postal system for a long time.

What I don't understand is why don't they ship them via First Class Mail instead of Media Mail. First Class is CHEAPER than media mail for a single DVD

If they shipped first class, everything would arrive in a few days rather than a few weeks. First class mail always moves, it is not allowed to sit in the processing center or the local post office. If it comes in, then it has to be sorted and moved out. Media mail however is not covered under those rules. It can sit for a while, especially if things are heavy. Express, Priority and first class as well as periodicals(2nd class) must all go and be cleared out before the lesser stuff gets worked. So if things are heavy with the other classes, then the package can sit a couple of days at each stop it makes along the way. That is why you have such a wide variance of delivery times. So if the planets align and things are light, you can get the item in 3 days like I just did, or in a heavy season when things sometimes get misrouted, it can take a month(like a package I received last year)

I agree with RocG617. It's not so much with DDD as it is with USPS. I had a recent package that took 11 days to WA state. That's assuming that DDD isn't fudging the ship dates. My most recent package didnt have delivery confirmation so I can't verify one way or the other. It had a strange bar code beginning with "P" but I figure it's just an internal tracking as opposed to delivery confrimation bar code.

I think I'm gonna stop shopping there and DDD has been the store I shopped at most often for dvds in past 2 years.

I only live about half an hour away from them and it takes about 2 weeks for me to receive the dvds! What the hell? If I lived in California I guess I would understand, BUYT I LIVE ONLY a HALF HOUR AWAY!!! That is just ridiculous!!! Not too mention they package their dvds like crap. If you order a box set, chances are it will be it will be cracked, like last 3 box sets I ordered from them. I had enough. With Amazons Share the Love program I can usually get same or even cheaper prices. I'll be saying bye bye to DDD.

So far so good with me; a recent order shipped in a day or two. Although (and I've been ordering alot with DDD recently) I do think there may have been some times I didn't get a shipping notice (as someone above noted). But I'm not sure since delivery is usually a week or more after the notice. If your price/patience ratio tilts you to DDD as it usually does for me, I'd say keep going. I do wonder why their chief spokesperson, Mr. Barker, sometimes appears in these threads and sometimes not. Esp awhile back when there were a series of threads on DDD. Who knows? I have only had one problem of their fault and one of mine in years of buying and they dealt with both. Their CS is there.

I believe that the package is too thin to be first class w/ tracking. If they tried to ship it as such, there is a pretty good chance that a postal inspector may forcibly upgrade it to priority and deliver it along with a bill for $2.

If anything Deep D is getting faster.

I received The Who Kids are Alright from them on the release date this week. I used to get pre-orders up to a week or more late.

OK I was beginning to wonder if it was just me but apparently it isn't. My shipments have been taking longer and longer to arrive. Now I live in Ohio which just ain't that far from IL. Usually I would receive orders in less than one week but now it's taking over two weeks.

I guess the cliche you get what you pay for is starting to ring true for DDD.

For me it's always been 6 or 7 days from the day it ships. Ocassionally I'll get it in 5. Haven't noticed any slow down.

My shipping confirmation states that my last order shipped September 12th. Now, here it is October 12th, and still no shipment.

Here is a copy of an email that I sent them on October 3rd:

...According to my "order status" on your website, STARGATE SG-1 COMPLETE 4TH SEASON shipped on 09/12/03. I have yet to receive this order. This will be 16 business days since it shipped (22 total). Is this not unusual?...
Here's their reply:

"Here of late we have been experiencing some difficulty with our standard media mailing. The item is on it's way and should be arriving shortly. Than (sic) you for your patience. Again, thank you for writing DeepDiscountDVD.com. We appreciate your business."

Regards,

Customer Service Department
At what point should I email them again?

I placed 2 orders with them last week for the first time in months.

One order placed on 10/7 claimed it was shipping 10/10.
The other order placed 10/9 claimed it was shipping 10/12.

As of 10/14 neither order has shipped.

I've never had a problem with them before, but I'm beginning to wonder.

A pre-order of mine shipped last Monday, and arrived today -the release date. That works for me!
