Netflix - do they always 'cheat' with return dates?

Netflix - do they always 'cheat' with return dates?

I just joined netflix a few weeks ago, and have twice returned 2 movies at the same time (on a Monday) and only had 1 get checked in on Wednesday and the other on Thursday. Every other time I returned a movie by itself it was received by them in 2 days. It just seems suspicious that the 2 times I returned 2 at the same time they weren't received at the same time. Was this just a coincidence or does this happen routinely?

Also, I have 50 movies in my queue and all are available. I remember reading a long time ago how new customers seemed to have lots of stuff in stock, but after a while you join the ranks of people that have long waits. Does this still happen, and if so, how long till I start having to join the queues? Is it sudden or gradual?

Unless you shipped them in the same envelope, I don't see how you could assume they were received together. I think it would cost more for them to try to "cheat" there, so I think it's a coincidence.

It was probably just a coincidence.

I've been a member for a long time, and I haven't seen any increase in wait time. In fact, things got a lot quicker when they opened their distribution center in Denver.

I don't see why they would cheat being the fact they're trying to speed up shipping/receiving by openeing all those distribution centers across the country.

More likely a post office problem.

My recent experience is that about 80% of my returns are checked in the next day, and the other 20% take an additional day. Like you, some of those incidents include times when I've dropped off 2 envelopes in the same mailbox.

I suspect one of the following scenarios:
1) The post office delayed half their stuff
2) Netflix received a huge pile of returns, and just didn't finish them all in one day.

Well looks like I'll be returning 2 again this coming monday, so I'll reserve judgement until I see what happens next week. I guess they probably get a lot on Wednesdays since a lot of people send stuff back on Monday (like me). The only reason it kind of upsets me is that means they send a new one out on Thursday instead of Wednesday, so I get it Saturday instead of Friday, so that means I can't send it back until Monday instead of Saturday, which eats up 2 more days than if they sent it out on time. Then by sending it back on Monday, the whole cycle seemed to repeat itself, so it almost limits you to 1 disc per week average (per disc that you have in your plan). If they send it out on Wednesday instead of Thursday, I could get 2 more rentals per month per disc out of them, or 6 more rentals total on a 3 out plan. Although that assumes they always delay a day, so far they've only done it twice and only on one disc, not 2.

Guess I'm rambling, but you get the point.

I've noticed that also, recently--I've been watching stuff more quickly, and have been seeing ship/return times of 3 to 4 days, instead of the 2-3 that it has been. Sometimes they'll check something in at 0900, and my replacement will be 'shipping soon' until the next morning when it shipped.
It hasn't happened all that often yet, so I'm going to count it as processing/disk finding/postal services variances. Although when I return more than one disk at a time, in separate envelopes, it does seem like they always get checked in a day or so apart. I guess the envelopes just go different directions, or just wind up in someone else's inbox.
They are *noticeably* better than they were this time last year; my avg ship time is probably 2.5 days, whereas it used to be 3.5-4 days last year.
