Does Best Buy honor rebates on Rainchecks?

Case in point: I have a raincheck for a CD-RW from a sale a few weeks ago. There is a rebate, that ended with the sale. The CSR behind the counter told me yes, but I thought I'd get a few more opinions.

Thanks in advance, and please just answer the question, no long rants on why BB sucks or whatever, okay?

This is what I was told.

Now if the postmark deadline has passed also then i really do not know.

I did get my rebate from them on this deal.
I also made copies of everything I sent in and sent it in a way that would be tracked or confirmed it was delivered.

Dear Mr. Gary Cribbs,

Thank you for contacting the Best Buy Corporate Headquarters regarding your
rebate inquiry. We appreciate your business and support. Please allow me
to respond accordingly.

In answer to your question, you were informed correctly regarding
eligibility for the rebate. The rebate would be available with your
raincheck if mailed by the postmark deadline stated.

We welcome your questions. If you should have any new questions or
concerns, please feel free to email us again. We hope that you will allow
Best Buy to be your source for many of your home and business needs. We
value your support and hope to see you in a Best Buy store very soon. Thank
you for your continued patronage.

Sincerely,

Comments: I got a rain check for a western digital 60 GB hard drive
on 11/7/01. At that time Best buy was also offering a $75 gift card mail in
rebate when you purchased this drive. Since it was out of stock I was given
the rain check and was told that I would qualify for the rebate due to the
rain check. I bought the drive today and initially was told they were not
sure at the store that I would get it since it required a purchase by
11/10/01 then I was told that they had talked to the manager and that I
would qualify and get the rebate as long as I attached the rain check form
and mailed the form in by the postmark deadline of 12/10/01. I am just
writing to see if I can verify this since If it is not true I will end up
with a box with no UPC and no way to return the drive. I would not have
bought the hard drive with out this deal.
I am looking forward to hearing from you
Gary Cribbs

Thanks Gary, the rebate has a post mark date of 11/12/02, so if I get it soon it should be safe.

UPDATE: Walked into a different Best Buy today and they had the item on the shelf... one left. I took it to the computer counter and asked if they would honor my raincheck here. They said they would and with a little coaxing, they got my raincheck transfered and I got the Samsung CD-RW (40x12x40) for $59.99 ( shelf price is $89.99).

They reassured me of the fact that my $30 rebate would still be accepted and told me what to send in (and I'm going to two copies of everything)... so I get my CD-RW for $29.99! Not bad. (... and the cool thing is that its Mac compatible, and I threw it into my empty firewire case and just burned a CD, so I'll keep it!)

I'll mail in the rebate stuff on Tuesday, well before the Nov 12 postmark date... so here's to hoping!

Thanks.

Rebate denied... got a letter in the mail today:
You are receiving this notification because unfortunately, you have not complied with the terms of the offer, or you have not provided complete information: 'The purchase was made before or after this rebate offer.'
No number or anything to call... how do I get ahold of them? (Rebate handled by 'The Express Group'.)

Mailing for the rebate before the postmark date is one requirement. Another requirement is that the receipt has to be dated within the promotional period.

Usually the postmark date is a month after the end of the promotional period so that consumers have ample time to mail in their rebate request. Even if you can meet the postmark date but you bought your CDRW drive outside the promotional period using your raincheck, you won't get your rebate.

Your only option now is to complain to [email protected] and tell them your situation and how the BB employee had told you the validity of the rebate, hopefully they would cut you a check from their own rebate center.
