Is RentMyDVD in trouble?

Just wondering because they have progressively gotten much worse over the last 2 months.

- I used to always have 2-3 in stock on my 70+ wish list. Now, they are ALWAYS out of stock.

- They used to ship me replacements the day my return was received. Now, they hold my shipment for a minimum of 2 days before shipping (and that is once they finally are "in stock.")

- They used to have a very good title catalog. Now, they don't even carry the most basic of new titles - such as the new Time Machine (2002).

Ugh.

It is sad when my choice is now this place or Netflix - where they "lost" (or is it a way for them to process insurance claims?) my returns about every 4th disc.

I think this company is in trouble.

4 calls to their office - and still no response in over 3 weeks!!!

Their Web site does not allow you to check your membership plan.
You cannot sign up or change your plan.
I called to talk to someone and let them know that I spoke to a postal inspector in Stamford Conn. and he confirmed that there is a huge DVD theft ring out of the distribution center there.

But calls to inform them went unreturned.

My rental "wish list" has disappeared - and my credit card company said I have not been billed since October.

I put a flag on my account - not to accept any more charges from this company.

I used to love this company, but I think they are going out of business - or they don't care about their customers any more

I had almost 20+ titles that were not in stock for over 4 months!!

It seems that since Netflix went public they have most if not all of their DVDs in stock and they are opening up a center in Flushing, NY and the postal inspector said that one is opening up in Stamford Conn.

Any feedback from anyone - in the same situation

Or feedback from the company???

I changed my RentMyDVD account from monthly billing to 'pay as you go' about 6 months ago after seeing more than 15 titles in my queue be out for months at a time. I had been using RentMyDVD more than NetFlix (where I've had an account since 9/99) at the time but now NetFlix is so much better. Their center in Flushing has been open for a while (at least all of my rentals have been returned to there for the last few months) and turnaround time has been great.

Last month out of the blue, I received and email from RentMyDVD assuring me that my account was cancelled successfully. Well, I had not requested that my account be cancelled (although I had considered it because I had 40+ DVDs in my queue and all were out of stock), so I sent and email asking why my account was cancelled without my knowledge.

About 4 days later I recevied the following response from RentMyDVD:

Thank you for contacting us. We apologize for any confusion or frustration this may have caused. We are making some changes in our company and will not be renewing any membership plans at this time. We appreciate your patronage.
Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Since I had already started relying on Netflix more and more, I guess this is really no great loss.

Hmmm...

Well looks as if they are in trouble. Netflix looks as if it's the way to go now. I've had an account with them since '99 too. I've upgraded to 5 dvd's, I was splitting my $ bt RMDVD and Netflix, but not any more.

Thanks for the feedback guys

So do you think these guys are officially dead? I actually sent some movies back a few weeks ago but they never got checked in. I still have 1 out now, but if they are dead I might as well keep it.

Seem dead to me. They claim to have shipped me discs on 11/15, but I never got them. No response to any e-mails.

Guess it's back to Netflix; from most reports they have improved from the time that their poor performance made me switch to RentMyDVD in the first place. RMD was getting as bad as Netflix was then.

I would say that "Is RentMyDVD in trouble" is a outdated question. I would say their done! I just went to see if I could signup (not like I was really going to signup) and it won't let new customers signup. Plus their secure certificate expired last month (nov.) on the 9th. Seeing those 2 issues, I would say that they are just waiting for there movies to come back before shuting down completely. Just my 2 cents and all.

I gave up on them a year ago. Was tired of my entire wish list being unavailable.
