I have a similar situation...my Young Ones order is supposed to ship today but the $5 promo coupon does not show up in the billing section (this is an order I have not touched since July). So I called customer service to ask about it and they said that the coupon amount WAS applied to the order total even though the site does not show it. Might want to double check your orders right before they ship...

Well add me to the list of baffled Amazon Customers.
I've had Grease and 24 preordered for some time and placed the order with share the love on both items, a $5 off $35 coupon and a non-promo GC and qualified for free shipping of course.
Everything showed up fine in my order history and order confirmation email. Today I noticed they changed my status from preorder to shipping soon and the bill has changed significantly.
The original amount to be billed to my credit card (after discounts came to $30.12
Now my order history shows two different amounts due ?
Total for This Shipment: $66.49
Total paid by Gift Certificate: $21.15
Total paid by VISA: $45.34
That's only $15.22 more than it should be !!
AND Then Underneath this, This Summary
Item(s) Subtotal: $62.52
Shipping & Handling: $ 3. 97
Share the Love: (-) $ 6. 25
Super Saver Discount: (-) $ 3. 97
Promotional Certif $ 3. 97
_____
Total before tax $60.24
Est Tax 0.00
Gift Certificate Amount: (-) $21.15
_____
Grand Total: $39.09
__________________________________________________
So what's the problem with the detailed summary listing? In the promo certificate column, they are actually billing me $3.97 instead of reducing my order total by $5.00 (for the $5 off $35 promo code.)
So that Grand total is now $8.97 higher than it was yesterday. Guess I'll be calling them next week to straighten this mess out

Okay I forgot Amazon CS is available 24/7 so I called them to find out which wrong amount they actually had charged me.
Sure enough instead of billing me $30.12 they actually charged my credit card $45.34 (no share the love discount, no free shipping discount, no $5 of $35 discount was reflected)
So I got the csr to credit back to my credit card the difference of $15.22

Argh. Same thing happened to me - my order went to shipping soon and the $5 promo plus the free shipping dropped off. Good thing I am keeping all my e-mails until after the order ships. I had to call to get my $8.97 credited back to me.
It's good I'm getting it back, but I don't want to have to call each time an order gets ready to ship to get my money back.

WARNING! It appears that Amazon is having a big problem right now on partial shipments with Super Saver Shipping!
If you get a partial shipment, they are losing the promotional coupon, the share the love, AND they charge you shipping even though shipping should be free!
The shipping is shown as "to be credited back" on the rest of the order, but the promo coupon and share the love is gone!
I've had this happen twice now, and see reports of many others having this happen - it appears to have started sometime earlier this week (Sept 18 or 19).
Check your partial shipment orders!
No idea on how to fix this at this time other than to call Amazon - they usually WILL fix the order, but I hate having to call.
Workarounds appreciated.

I'll just add that in my case, there was no partial shipment. My order for "24" was being held until "Grease" was released.
The CSR did mention that their computer system was having a lot of problems handling orders which include more than one type of discount (SLT, Free Shipping, GC, Promo GC)

I just checked and also have the problem. Not only was this not a split order issue...but I only had one item in it (Mary Tyler Moore Season 1.)
The original invoice read:
Subtotal of items: $ 37.49
Shipping & Handling: $ 2.98
Promotional Certificates: -$ 5.00
Share the Love : -$ 3.75
Super Saver Discount : -$ 2.98
Total for this Order: $ 28.74
It has continued to read that till this morining when it changed to the following:
Item(s) Subtotal: $37.49
Shipping & Handling: $2.98
-----
Total Before Tax: $40.47
Tax: $0.00
-----
Total paid by VISA: $40.47
So I am off to call Amazon. It really seems like they are messing up all orders now.
Update: I spoke with an Amazon CSR. She looked at this order and said that the roughly $12 difference showed up in my account but had not been applied. She said a refund would be issued via my credit card and acknowledged multiple problems occuring with this situation.

Seems like these major issues have been happening at Amazon about once a month for the past year or two. Are their web servers somehow connected to the cycles of the moon?
If I'm reading the order history correctly, my discounts are about to be dropped on both Grease and my two orders for the Kurosawa set. Great.

Looks like Amazon's problems are not getting any better for me. I have three orders shipping soon that lost all STL, coupons, and free shipping on each one. From my order summary it appears that Amazon is charging my credit card without any discounts. I think it is obvious Amazon doesn't care about these problems or is willing to fix them.

Yeah, major problems for me too. There are 3 levels of discrepancy that I don't understand. 1) My original order amount with FS, STL, and PC properly applied. 2) The amount they say to be paid by my credit card - which is the FULL amount and 3) The amount listed under "Payment Information" which is the full amount less STL but with FS and PC added back in.
I just sent them an e-mail telling them the difference between my total and theirs. Hopefully, they will just credit it back without any problem. In the past, I have had some anal CSRs ask me what the coupon code was I used, where I got it, etc........

The mistake is happening instantly now.
Last week I had to call to get $5 back after an order that included STL, 5 off 35 and free super saver shipping wound up being shipped in multiple shipments (even though the free shipping is supposed to wait for all items to ship at once). The order total details are completely convoluted, as it appears as if the $5 coupon is applied to the first order that shipped, but when the last item shipped, not only was no discount applied, they double charged me for shipping that should have been free. Net total was $5 over and a quick call to a CSR resolved this, they credited my card $5.
Today, I place an order, 3 items, all in stock, all shipping in 24 hours. Again, I used STL, a 5 off 35 and free shipping. Got the order confirmation email, grand total is correct, approximately $40. However, when I check the order status on Amazon's site not 2 minutes after placing the order, there is no mention of the 5 off 35 and my total is now $45. So when this ships I'll have to call again.
I seriously doubt this is a programming mistake. They didn't have problems with multiple discounts like this in the past. I think they are desperate to show a profit and are dropping discounts, hoping that most people don't check their receipts that closely. If you do check, they fix it, if you don't, free money for them. This is why I only shop at Amazon now when I have multiple discounts. With BN's free shipping, plus 5% from Reader's Advantage card plus 7% from Discover card, I've never had any problems.

I placed an order in July that had free shipping, STL and promo g/c. Everything was ok until the order shipped this past Monday.
The free shipping, stl and g/c all fell off the order. My cc was charged for the full amount.
There was NO partial shipping on this order, it shipped complete.
I did not add, combine, delete or change this order in any way.
At least the free shipping should have stuck since it shipped complete (no partial shipments on this order), but it didn't.
I have to agree with RevLiver, with the end of the 3rd quarter approaching, Amazon can charge everyone's credit card for the higher amounts to show higher revenue ( the end of the quarter is Sept 30th). If the customer catches the "mistake" the credit will appear next quarter, (Oct to Dec 2002) and if the customer does not catch it, Amazon pockets the extra $$$.

I just got off the phone with Amazon. I had three orders in the process of shipping and one order that had already shipped, and my credit card had been charged full price for all four orders. All of my STL, $5 off coupons, and free shipping had disappeared. The guy on the phone was cool about it and went through each order one by one and refunded me the differance on each one. After all was said and done, they had to refund me a grand total of $49.15.

Amazon needs to put their act together and fix this problem. Going through each order with some CSR when it ships is not exactly a shopping pleasure. I wonder how many people do not check their CC statements and fall prey to amazon!
Btw, anyone ever received an REMAINDER email from amazon about returning an item that they have replaced. I got one for a replacement order that I received a month ago. They shipped the replacement without a return mailing label. I called them up and requested a label and they said they would send it to me. Two weeks past and no label, so I called again. They said they had the request on file and asked me to keep waiting. Today I received an email (auto?) reminder saying that I have 10 days to return the original item or else I would be charged the full price for it. Damn! They never sent me a return label and they told me to keep waiting! I rushed to the Post Office and sent the damn thing back to them by Priority Mail ($9 out). I demanded a refund for the shipping cost in the package and I shall see what happens.

Wow! I thought I was the only person highly annoyed with my recent experiences with Amazon. I have experienced a combination of events outlined by people in this forum.
On 9/4 I placed an order that generated the following confirmation:
Subtotal of items: $ 38.98
Shipping & Handling: $ 3.97
Promotional Certificates: -$ 5.00
Share the Love : -$ 3.90
Super Saver Discount : -$ 3.97
Total: $ 30.08
Gift Certificates: -$ 5.00
------
Total for this Order: $ 25.08
1 "Abba - The Definitive Collection"
Lasse Hallstrom; DVD; @ $18.74 each
Usually ships in 3 to 4 days
1 "True Romance (Unrated Director's Cut)"
Christian Slater; DVD; @ $20.24 each
Not yet released
When I went to check my account, the $5 coupon dropped off because they shipped the Abba before True Romance. Even though I specified sending them together for the Super Saver Shipping.

After talking to to cs, they transferred me to a specialist, who confirmed the total price should be $25.09 -
He asked me to wait until I received the items to check my credit card, and the amount charged was $30, not $25.
I spoke with a rep tonight who promised me she'd straighten it out, but here's what now appears at the bottom of the page:

Requested: Sep. 24, 2002 $3.02
Ok, I guess I'll let the $2 go at this point, but it gets better - Here is my order from 9/22:

I suggested having the tech people look into the system and see what is going on. I don't think Amazon is intentionally removing codes or charging higher prices. It seemed, in my case for the first order, the glitch occured when they mailed the packages separately. That is the point where the code fell off.
There is no excuse for the order placed on 9/22. That is really frightening stuff. I tend to check my orders to make sure they jive with my cc charges. However, I doubt a majority of the people that order from Amazon are double checking. I don't think Amazon realizes the enormity of the situation.

I went through the refund process today with an Amazon CSR. At least he was nice about it and quickly issued a refund on three orders in the amount of about $38. But I just about had enough of this with Amazon and think I will start using DVDEmpire more frequently. I have had no trouble with them and it is nice getting preorders on time.

Yeah, it is annoying, but I am averaging about 50% off titles than what I would pay locally (especially when you factor in tax). And, really, it isn't too difficult. I just wrote one e-mail explaining the problem, saved it, and just replace the numbers for each order. Takes like 3 seconds - they have gotten back to me the next day every time with my refund.

what bothers me is that they have been overcharging customers consistently for at least a year if not longer. sometimes they refund on the first call or email while other times you need to almost fight with them.
I am surprised they haven't been sued for this. they should have fixed their system a long time ago.

Same problems here with an incredibly prompt and polite but incompetent staff. I probably should have checked this forum first but I've never had this problem before until now. If you have an hour to spare read my e-mail conversations with half the staff over two DVD orders.

ORDER NUMBER: 104-1694669-5765530
COMMENTS: I tried to order two DVDs from your website and since it was over the required amount for free shipping I chose that plus I used a 5.00 promotional coupon which went through initially but when I checked out the order jumped back up 5.00. So I cancelled it. When I checked my gift certificate balance it says I have -$10.00. What does that mean? And why was the 5.00 added on again AFTER I completed the order? Please explain this confusion to me. Thank you.

Subject: Your Amazon.com Order (#104-1694669-5765530)
Thank you for writing to Amazon.com to bring this to our attention.
I do apologize for the technical error that caused your order total to be calculated incorrectly. I went ahead and confirmed the original order #104-1694669-5765530, the $5.00 promotional gift certificate and super saver shipping are both applied to the order. The total of the order is now $40.19. However, if you are charged incorrectly once the items ship we will be glad to issue a refund for any additional charges. If the amount is more than the amount shown above, we kindly request you to wait until the entire order has been shipped.
When you have received our e-mail confirming that your order has
shipped, please write back to us at [email protected]. If possible, please include a copy of the cost summary from your original order confirmation e-mail. We will make sure to request the appropriate refund to your credit card for the excess amount you were erroneously charged.
I hope this solution is satisfactory. Once again, I apologize for
this inconvenience.
Thank you for your patience in this matter, and thanks again for
shopping at Amazon.com.
Best regards,

Dear Kara S.:
Thank you for the quick response, but after checking the order you re-instated for me the total is not listed as $40.19 but $49.16 - this time it doesn't include EITHER the Super Save Shipping or the $5.00 promotional coupon. Also, I still don't understand why my account (under gift certificates) says that I have -$10.00 in credit.
Sorry, but it seems I'm even worse off than before! Thanks again for your time looking into this matter and please let me know at your convenience when the order has been corrected.
Sincerely,
Paul

Thanks for your trouble Gagandeep, but the order is still over $10.00 more than when I originally ordered the two DVDs - the original total came to $39-something but now is over $49.00. If that is the complete total I can get these DVDs elsewhere for much cheaper from places like Deep Discount DVD for a much better price that doesn't include any promotional coupons and always has free shipping. I used to shop at Amazon only and have purchased well over half of my collection through you, but the prizes for your DVDs is just too expensive now and the headaches of ordering I just don't want to deal with anymore.
Once again, thanks for your time. Don't mean to sound rude. I have cancelled my order.
Sincerely,
Paul

Subject: Your Amazon.com Order (#104-1694669-5765530)
Dear Paul,
Greetings from Amazon.com.
I've checked into your order and it does indeed appear that your
calculations were correct. I apologize for any confusion that we may have caused you.
Your total item cost including taxes comes to $44.83. I do see that you have a $5.00 promotional gift certificate on your account, and this would bring your total order cost to $39.83. Of course since you selected our Super Saver shipping, no shipping charges would therefore incur.
I also confirm that you have cancelled this order (#104-1694669-
5765530). I have notated your account to make sure that your order will be charged $39.83 if you wish to reinstate your order. Please let us know if this is your wish and we will be glad to make sure that you are appropriately charged.
You're also more than welcome to place another order for the same items. When you place your next order, on the payment section of our online order form, you should see that the promotional certificate funds have been automatically applied to your order.
If this is not the case, make sure the radio button is selected under the words "You have $XX.XX in gift certificates or promotional credit available for use toward this purchase. Would you like to apply it?" We will then apply this amount to your order. You do not need to enter your claim code again, as it has already been redeemed. I hope this information helps. We want to make sure that you are completely satisfied when you shop with Amazon.com, and we look forward to fulfilling your order.
Thanks for shopping at Amazon.com.

Dear Mr. Hazelwood/Amazon:
Placed my order once again. There was no $5.00 promo coupon on my account. There was also no radio button to select under "You have $XX.XX in gift certificates or promotional credit available for use towards this purchase", in fact that line was not on the final invoice before finalizing the order. I used a second promo code (MAPFLEETSH35) that I obtained from DVDTalk.com and it went through bringing the total to $39.38. Once I clicked to finalize the order the price jumped up to $44.83 bringing me right back to my original problem. The new order number is 104-9151878-2816764.
Sincerely ready to start pulling my hair out,
Paul

Dear Amazon:
Is this some kind of joke? My order is STILL at $49.16, nearly $10.00 over what it originally was and $5.00 over what it was the second time I placed the order. No promotional coupon was added to the account. And not one person out of four has addressed my question of why I have a negative $10.00 balance in my "View gift certificate balance" section.
Enough is enough. I am cancelling this order for the last time.
