What are Amazon.com up to???
I placed an order for 3 dvds on August 15th. The total was $50.20. Today i decided to change my payment method and use a different credit card. Then it takes me back to my order and BOOM the total now say $60.18. I emailed them just this second and told them that i am gonna take my business elsewhere if charge me for that amount. Why the hell has this happened? Do you think the GC vanished so i have to enter it again?
Amazon aren't in my good books lately |
Honestly, why would you want to change what credit card you were paying with? I could see if it was expiring but just to change for the hell of it seems odd.
Anyway, if you kept the original email I would send that to them via email and explain what happend and I'm sure they will credit your card. NN |
well they are pre-orders and i haven't got the orginal email because i've recently changed my email address. If they charge me for $60.18 im just gonna see if i can get STL on the same titles again and just re-order then cancel my exisitng order.

There are NUMEROUS threads and posts about changes to STL orders changing the price. That is why once STL orders are placed, I do not mess with them.
|
As pointed out in the other threads, this problem can "usually" be solved by contacting customer service. I have done it by telephone rather than email with good success. In my case, the item I ordered was not a pre-order so my credit card had already been charged. They promptly showed the $5.00 credit on my account page...but it took more than a week to get an email from them saying that the $5.00 was actually going to show up as a credit on my credit card statement. In your case since it was a pre-order you will hopefully not even get billed the wrong amount. However, if you decide to cancel the order and re-place it take a look at the Amazon coupons threads for the strategy to try and make the coupons "stick" to your order without having to go through this problem. That has worked for me on two out of the three last orders I placed...So it is not 100% effective either.

I used a $5 off $35 code on Saturday. It appeared on the order screen and looked fine. I've used them dozens of times with no problem.
The confirmation email arrived and the code wasn't on it and the $5 was not taken off. I just stared and it and thought "you dumb ----, how'd you manage to do that?" assuming I just screwed something up. Now I'm wondering. |
It's not you. This has happened to me the last two times. The coupon goes through, everything looks great when you hit the "send order" button. Then you get that email, and your coupon is gone. I just cancel the order and redo it. The coupon always works again for me, and it is easier then calling and getting the runaround.

I just cancelled and reordered it again and this time the $5 coupon stuck. Really as long as I get a better deal i will place an order with amazon. If it is even close i will use another company since I do not trust Amazon anymore. they intentionally do these things by allowing their software to drop gc's whenever you make any changes. Why would they do this? Obviously they have studies that show that the average person does not complain and the majority of those that do give up after being told no a few times. so they make more money by these accidents happening than they would if they fixed the bug in their software :( |
I placed an order in late June for a pre-order being released next week using a $5 coupon, which expired at the end of that month. Everything was fine - the coupon appeared on my confirmation e-mail. Then a couple weeks ago, I went into the order to change the shipping method, and saw the coupon was gone. I e-mailed CS asking about it, and they said the coupon disappeared from my order after it expired, so be careful of that happening to you, as well. They did credit the $5 on the order with no problems.
|
Well I've cancelled and re-ordered because I requested Love in the bargain thread. I've now got it back to $50.22. Thanks to fellow dvd talkers.
I did actually ring amazon up this morning and they refused to change it so i just cancelled it. |
I have not ordered from Amazon since Dec. when they screwed up on my order where they charged shipping for $4.98 when it was supposed to be free shipping. They later gave me a credit for the amount. Last week I was induced to order due to the free shipping (once again) and a $5 promotional coupon I obtained from the Bargain Forum. As many have reported, the $5 coupon was not taken off as reflected in my email confirmation. So as many did, I cancelled the order and tried once again and 2nd time was a charm with both my email confirmation and "order summary" page reflecting the correct amounts. Two days later I check my "order summary" and the $5 coupon is no longer there! I call up and the first thing the guy who answered asked me was where I got the coupon, as if this matters at this point since my email already confirms their acceptance of it. I was next transferred to a lady "order specialist" who confirms that she is showing the $5 coupon and that she will take the coupon off when the rest of the order ships (order was broken in three shipments due to different date releases). Up to now the $5 coupon does not show in my "order summary" page so it looks like I may have to call once again when the other items ship. This will be my last order with Amazon.
Update 9/12: Just got an email from Amazon regarding above and this is what I got: "Thank you for writing to Amazon.com to bring this to our attention. I apologize for the technical error that caused your order total to be calculated incorrectly. Upon investigating your order, I found that it did qualify for all of the promotional discounts you mentioned as well as free Super Saver Shipping. We will be glad to issue a refund of these additional charges. To ensure that we refund the appropriate amount, we kindly request you to wait until the entire order has been shipped. When you have received our e-mail confirming that your order has shipped, please write back to us at [email protected]. If possible, please include a copy of the cost summary from your original order confirmation e-mail. We will make sure to request the appropriate refund to your credit card for the excess amount you were erroneously charged. I hope this solution is satisfactory. Once again, I apologize for this inconvenience." I find this hard to beleive that they cannot correct this until my entire order ships. |

I've noticed something else going on. When I place a large order for a number of pre-orders using the free shipping, they often send me a partial shipment, but when I then look at the remaining order online, I am getting shipping charges. Also, I thought with the free shipping, they were supposed to hold everything until the entire order is ready to ship. I have been getting bits and peices of 6 open orders. I normally wouldn't mind, but it is screwing up each order after they ship.

With numerous complaints since geez, it's been so long, I cannot remember! I cannot believe they still have not fixed this. In fact, I think it's worse now. I believe all the problems started happening since STL kicked off (so yes, its been a while).
serse, the reason they ask you to wait until they ship is because they probably know the party is not over yet. Your totals will change again when orders are being prepared for shipping and again when each item ships. Bet on it. :( |

Bet on it. :( I placed a large order that after all the discounts and a $10 Gift Certificate I had came out to $88.89. they shipped out Monster's Inc and surprise, surprise I got Monster's Inc shipped to me for nothing; however I now owe them $102.70 for the remaining Dvd's :( I keep thinking I am getting a good deal and instead I have to keep fighting with them over the mischarges :( They just used all the gc's to pay for Monster's inc then erased any remaining balance from those discounts. My discounts/GC balance was:$40.03 Instead they gave me credit for $20.97 where is my remaining money :( |

i'm getting pissed at them.
i used a borders gift card going through border.com, i ordered hitch hikers guide to the galaxy and preorder southpark season 1. since the one is already out, and they each where over 25$ i placed the orders seperately. i used the same 50$ gc for each order, expecting to pay about 5 bucks remainder on my credit card. the problem was i had this gc for along time and the numbers smudged abit. as it turns out now, i mistook an 8 for a 9. which made the code invalid. instead of letting me know it was invalid (the website took it) they just charged the full amount to my credit card. why they couldn't of bothered to send me an email that there was a problem i have no idea. i've sent 4 emails so far giving them the correct gc number, explaining what happened and asking for them to credit me back the full amount and deduct it from the gc instead, as well as making sure the open order for southpark has been updated with the right gc number. each time i get some hashed reply, sorry for the confusion, the gift card used when you placed the order is invalid. have a nice day. i got 8 bucks credit, when that is gone, i'm done with them. |
Currently here is my situation: I placed an order on September 5th. I used a $25.00 promotional gift certificate, and then Amazon took the balance of 13.45 out of my other GC which I actually wanted to pay by Visa. I called to have this corrected and was told it would be. I checked it tonight and now I am showing one item shipped with shipping charges even though I was free shipping. For the rest of the order which should be roughly 28.00 I am being charged 10.49 on Visa, 14.41 on Promo GC and 13.45 on GC. For a grand total of 53 and change for a 38.00 order.

In addition to the above issues (all of which are valid... I don't think the Amazon programmers know how to make the orders add up properly.... )
has anyone received order/changes/cancellation/shipping notifications in the last 2-3 days? Those have also dropped off the earth for me. |
I haven't gotten a price adjustment in a long time. I ordered Back to the Future Box set for around $48 from them. I checked recently and saw that the price had been dropped. I looked up my order and saw that it was not adjusted, so I just cancelled and reordered. I also truly hate when they partial ship an order. I end up with shipping charges on the remaining items, and a strange math that always adds up in their favor.

I actually got a Gold Box item that I wanted. It was regularly $99.99 but with the gold box discount it was $73.99. I figured I could use a $10 off $100 coupon to reduce it to $63.99, but the website wouldn't let me. So there was something else I wanted anyway for $11.20 so I added it to my order, was careful to properly apply the $10 discount coupon and placed the order which looked fine initally. The big item was immediately available but the second item was not...so even with free shipping they decided to split the order into two shipments. They properly applied the $10 discount and Gold box discount and free shipping to the first item and charged me $63.99. But on the second item they show the following:
Item $11.20 Shipping $3.99 Coupon -- $6.01 (yes that is 2 minuses...you remember from your math days that two minuses make a plus!!!) Total: $21.20 So I called customer service and they said not to worry, when they ship the product they will only charge my VISA $11.20. I will believe that when it happens...but there is nothing to complain about until my card gets charged so I will just wait and see. |
I thought I was the only one getting the 2 minuses make a plus thing on my orders. I would usually cancel the remaining part of the order when I saw this, so I have no idea if they do charge correctly. I used the $10 off $100 coupon on my last order. They shipped me a $14 dvd with free shipping and the $10 off already, so it was only $4 and some change. When I looked at the order, I saw it was all screwed up, so I cancelled and was happy that they took the loss. I just re-ordered the items with another coupon.

I have done this with several orders Amazon messed up that were partially shipped. I found it easier to cancel and start over instead of spending a lot of time on the phone trying to have an order specialist fix it. Looks like Amazon created a loophole to get free shipping on any order amount, and turn coupons into no minimum by simply cancelling the remaining portion. I prefer to keep an order intact but Amazon's continued problems leave little choice. |
Yeah - I actually prefer being "honest", and not ripping Amazon off by making every coupon no minimum with free shipping, but with all their problems with orders, I've occasionally done the same... you end up with a cheap order (and I feel slightly guilty for doing it), but with the problems, I'd rather not calll someone to fix it.

they finally fixed my problem, after 4 emails of repeating myself.
no sorry promo for me. but, i'm actually glad for that, i don't want anymore reasons to use them again. |
