Pre Orders on Amazon.com
I was just wondering if you order something now that won't be released until September and/or October, when do they send it? Do you get it a few days before the actual release or do they put it in the mail the day of the release, which in that case wouldn't it make more sense to go to Best Buy and just buy it then? Just curious cause I'm dying to order Monsters Inc. and Beauty and the Beast!
Thanx!

They typically wait for release date to ship. My last shipment however went out the Friday before release.
I'm anxious to see if this is a trend - I ordered The Usual Suspects SE which is due out in a couple of weeks.

My experience with Amazon is that they always ship before release date. But depending on where you live in relation to where it was shipped from, the package may not get to you by release date.
My last order shipped on a Sunday and got to me on Tuesday, which was really fast.

If getting the title right away on the day of release is VERY important to you (as it seems to be), I suggest that you do not preorder at any web site. Best Buy and other stores will likely have these two very popular titles for about the same price as online ordering.
Online preordering is really for convenience... you will get the title delivered to you when it comes out without having to think about it or trek out to a store. However, if getting it a couple of days late is going to be an issue, you're better off just buying it live.

From my own personal experience, I'd say it varies. Most of my preorders from Amazon ship out the Thursday or Friday before release date date and they usually arrive by the Saturday, Monday or Tuesday of the release week but there have been a few preorders that have shipped a day or 2 after release date. (And there was one preorder that took almost 2 months to get it shipped. Amazon's CSRs couldn't figure out why but it worked out in the end because of the long delay they gave it to me for free & it was one of those rather expensive boxsets.
)
I agree with bboisvert, that if it is a major release and you want to be sure to have it on release date then your best bet is a B&M store.

My Amazon preorders usually ships on Sat/Sun before the release and they arrived on Wed/Thurs. In the extreme, I once received an item Friday before the release and in another case I received an item 3 months after the release
