I just got screwed on Half.com

I bought NFL 2K1 for my new Dreamcast for $8. The seller, who had a great feedback rating, said the disc was like new and even included the note: "Like New! Excellent condition!" So I got it today. The first thing I noticed was that the disc was covered on both sides with a thick grime. It looked like somebody tried to wash the disc in soap. So I cleaned it with my dvd cleaner to find that the disc is all scratched up, and not just lightly scuffed but scratched like somebody drug it across the pavement! I was so pissed.

I sent a scathing note demanding a refund. This is the first time I've ever gotten screwed on Half.com. I don't like it.

If its any consolation, half.com is almost always sides with the buyer in a dispute. Sellers get the shaft in disputes. You should have no problem getting your money back.

Join the club. I had one of those (a DVD) on eBay and a half-functional game cartridge from Half. It's getting that I won't touch anything that isn't sealed. Although I got a sealed DVD from Half that must have been used as a substitute for a cat toy, the wrapper was shredded so badly.

The funny thing is, I complained about the shipping charge for the "shredded" DVD on Half (I paid for priority, it was sent media mail) and just wanted my $2.45 back. It took them forever to respond and then they sent me an e-mail saying that they were refunding the entire price since I didn't receive it. WTF??? I sent an e-mail back trying to just get the $2.45, not the $85 they credited me. Haven't heard back yet.

And I sent an e-mail to the seller about the video game. They didn't respond for about a week, but then did and said send it back, they'd refund my money. Then Half said because they didn't respond Half was refunding my money. WTF???

They're Half screwed up there.

That's good to hear. This seller won't be getting "the shaft" as he/she grossly misrepresented the product.

I've bought quite a few things off Half.com and this is the first time I've gotten screwed. This person had excellent feedback, which I always pay attention to. I don't know. Maybe it's getting worse. As the stock grows, people misrepresent product in order to sell it.

Don't hold your breath for a refund from half. They conveniently forget about such trivial things. Oh...I would say about 20 e-mails or so ought to get it for you. They have got to make sure you REALLY want it before they will cut the check !

Well, I just sent Half one complaint about not receiving a DVD, and about 2 months later, they refunded me the whole thing.

And this is differen than E-Bay...HOW???

Man, I have only nordered ONE thing from Half..and happy to say, MY seller was a *GEM*..sold me a VHS 'Rental Priced' film for $8.00, sent Priority..and literally arrived only 3 days after I typed in my CC#!

And I got $5 off.

But....

If I remember only vaguely correctly, wasn't Half.com once a place you ciould get CD's and such for say, HALF the retail value, hence name...or am I mistaken?(I really do not know...)

Seeing Salo for $300 and such just looks like E-Bay 2 to me.....

Yeah, it used to be that you couldn't list items for more than half the suggested retail price, but that was dropped long ago. You can still get some good deals on Half, but I see stuff all the time listed for MORE than the prices in the little box at the upper right. DVDs are typically WAY overpriced IMO.

Still haven't gotten a response from the seller of the "Like New" game yet.

One purchase through Half for me, one ripoff. And their follow-up was weak, so I was done with them early.

Oh, and my negative feedback for the seller mysteriously disappeared. How 'bout that? I will never buy there again.

Ive been buying and selling at half since it debuted about 2 years ago.

They have been good about refunding money from bad sellers.

The worst thing is when you get scammers who fill pre-order items and dont send. I have had that happen quite a bit.

Also - they should give more space to describe the condition - a lot of CDs that were listed as like new were actually drilled hole promo's.

But all in all there is some good stuff there - just watch and check and you will find good DVD prices.

Great news! Heard back from the seller, and she was very apologetic about the problem. She told me to keep the disc and she would issue a refund. I checked on my account at Half and noticed she had already done so. Now we'll see how long it takes Half to actually refund my money.

I must give kudos to the seller for being up front. She says that she sells a lot of games (she has over 500 listed) and that sometimes one slips through. I'll just assume that this was a mix-up rather than a misrepresentation.

Hopefully the disc will still be reusable if I resurface it. That remains to be seen.

I've also been buying and selling on half for almost 2yrs and haven't gotten ripped off.

The thing is to read the ratings (I won't buy from anyone under 4), and now that you can contact the seller things are alot better. I sold someone an unopened DVD and he said it was a defect. I didn't know what to believe because he was a new buyer, but I figured since he asked for an exchange he was legit, so I just refunded his money and let him keep it.

Well two days later and I just got a message from Half.com telling me they have credited my card for the purchase plus shipping.

I must say I'm impressed both with how the seller and Half has dealt with this. I know a number of posters on here have complained about how Half.com deals with problems, but my experience has been satisfactory. Perhaps they've made recent improvements in this area.

That's good to hear. The last time I had a problem, it took over a month to resolve.
