Changing Amazon order totals
I had a set price for a DVD package to ship when Eps 1 comes out. It contained free shipping, STL, and a promo code for $15 off $100.
My order total was $95 and change. Now it's $99 and change. Amazon factored the free shipping out of my promo code so now the code is $11.04 instead of $15 and I have the free shipping of $3.96 off my order. You guys might want to check your orders during the free shipping time period. |
did you cancel ANYTHING out of the order?
|
Call amazon, ask for an order specialist and complain out loud! They should be able to fix it.
|
Same thing happened to my Godfather pre-order, so I just cancelled that. It'll probably be cheaper at a B&M anyway.
|
Match...
Did not cancel anything out of the order whatsoever. |
They did the same thing to me. I called them and got it fixed. I ordered when they had the free shipping deal. I checked it about two weeks later and they took out my free shipping. It really pissed me off!! Anyway, call them up and they will fix it. Hope this helps.
|
What is amazon's phone number?
|
|
Thanks!
|
what was the time period for the free shipping? May have gotten screwed on my Terminator order.
thanks |
I just checked all my orders and found that two of them with free shipping have had the price increased. It does look like they subtracted the free shipping cost off the promotional certificates that were used for the orders. My other orders without free shipping appear to be unchanged. I will have to call customer service about this. Thanks for the warning.

Did anyone with this problem get an answer from Amazon? I called about this and the CSR appeared to be seeing the correct price, while my order summary on their site displayed the wrong price. The CSR kept assuring me I would be billed the lower price since that was what he was seeing. But if I am charged more they would give me a refund. They didn't really seem to know what is going on.

I have had the same problem happening to me on my order when I checked it today. I cancelled my entire order and lost my GC in the process. But I don't care about losing the GC because B&Ms will probably have the DVD at a reasonable price anyway. Even with a GC, Amazon is pretty pricey. I would rather pay a sales tax of less than a dollar than paying the steep shipping charge.
Amazon is fast becoming a shady and disreputable site in my opinoion... |

Count me in, too! My GODFATHER TRILOGY order from June was $65 including shipping, now it's $68. So I cancelled!
Not that it would do much good, but I e-mailed Amazon to tell them what I thought of their withdrawing promotions from earlier orders: "I placed an order in June for THE GODFATHER trilogy which included a $10 coupon and your free shipping offer. I chekced my order today and noticed that you had re-instated the shipping charge. As a result I have cancelled my order. this cancellation is not over whether I have to pay an additional $2.98 which is negligible, buy your casual disregard for terms in an order between the time it was placed and when it was shipped. there should be no change without consulting the customer. I can order the same title from other vendors for $2-3 more (even without a coupon) knowing they will not change the terms of a promotion." Of course, I'll be surprised if I hear from Amazon! |
what does this mean?
i ordered photoimpact which would be free after rebate and heathers (not tin) with stl making over 50$ and i used 10 off 50. i had 8.80 left over from a 30$ at&t gc, since i had two 30 at&T i planned on combining the 8.80 and whatever was left over from the second one for a third order. however amazon automatically throw the 8.80 into the offer. here are the emails, it's my first time dealing with amazon, so what does this last email mean? since the items shipped already do i need to return it for the credit? etc.
Thanks for writing to us at Amazon.com. First, let me apologize for this billing error. I've requested a refund of $42.66 to your credit card. This refund should go through within the next few business days and will appear as a credit on your next credit card billing statement. We will also send you an e-mail message to confirm when the refund has been processed. You may also view returns and refunds by clicking on the "Your Account" link at the top of our web site, then selecting the link marked "See the status of all your orders." Completed returns and refunds will appear at the bottom of the order summary page. Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com. I'm going through this with an CS rep right now. They're not sure why it's showing the shipping as being deducted from the GC total, but the records they're able to pull up show the correct information for my orders.

But this may explain why only $8.80 from the previous GC was applied to your new order. |
After some of the shadiness with Amazon's customer service during the summer (STL banning, free shipping disappearing after they applied it to all outstanding orders, etc.), I'd pretty much written them off... I had one order left - The Simpsons and Book of Hope placed under the free shipping policy, STL and with my $25 Ofoto gift certificate.
Well I got a shipping confirmation tonight with a $35.89 total - it should have been $2.42. So I checked my online AMEX statement... Of course I've been charged $35.89... They have seriously gone downhill. I called CS and they say I will be credited back the difference in the next few days or so, but still this is getting to be pathetic. I wonder how many people don't look at their invoices or e-mails that carefully? Well, this was my last order with Amazon after three years... |
A follow-up to my earlier posting--I did get an e-mail answer from Amazon as to why they reimposed the shipping charge on my GODFATHER order:
"Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com. I apologize for the change made to your order. It appears this change reappeared when we reduced the price of the item to the current website price. In looking into this item I determined that the GODFATHER COLLECTION is not scheduled to be released until October 9th. If you have any further questions feel free to contact us at the number below. Thank you again for shopping at Amazon.com. We hope to see you again soon. Best regards, Jesse Walker" Sorry, but I'm not buying Amazon's reason for reimposing the 2.98 shipping charge. Of course, if they are so sorry about their error, I notice they didn't offer any kind of monetary apology such as a coupon or anything else of substance! |
At $6 a share, looks like amazon is desperate... :(
|
A follow-up to my previous post. I had ordered WAITING FOR GUFFMAN from Deep Discount DVD and after waiting nearly 2 weeks after ordering it I cancelled and bought locally.
DDD read my post about their problem and apologized the way I thought Amazon should have done--they offered me a 10% discount on top of their already low prices (even with free shipping). I'm not holding my breath waiting for Amazon to send me a coupon. They have coupons out there on the web, and I'm not even interested! :p |
They did the same thing with me. I got a shipping confirmation this morning. It listed a total price that didn't match my order as I had used a gift certificate. So, I go to my account information section on their website. This was so strange. It shows on my order page:
Grand Total For This Order: $89.61 Total paid by AMEX: $139.61 I called customer service and fortunately got a nice rep on the phone. She said that they have been "updating their server" and some of the gift certificates and promo codes didn't carry over. She said that she would credit my American Express the $50 and it would go through by end of business tomorrow. I told her that it really isn't nice to charge someone more than what they authorized. She said, "believe me, you are not the first call I have had on this today." I guess my point is, PLEASE check your shipping confirmations against your credit card statement. You never know... |
I think this should be posted in a more prominent area but I just looked at an order that shipped tuesday and what I was actually charged. My total according to me was 37.43 and they charged me $44.45 removing my share the love discount and my promo coupon discount.
Everyone needs to check their orders. Amazon has lost me as a customer for good...not that they care. |
Any news?
Has amazon fixed this problem for anyone yet?
|
Same on my order
$40 Mcafee with $40 rebate and free shipping. Heartbreakers DVD $20.00 - $10 off of $50 purchase coupon -$10 GC from vividence total including shipping $43.00 shipped yesterday and they charged me $53.00 Called CS and they issued a $10 credit. Wonder how many they tried to rip off. |
Based on the replies above, it appears as if Amazon is giving money back only for those who complain to them about the problem. They should do the right thing and fix all the orders instead of waiting for people to call them about this.
I wonder how many unsuspecting customers are going to get ripped off by Scamazon.. |
I too was unaware of this problem until I tried to use my webcertificate, which they were overcharging. I thought it was isolated until I got the heads up here (thanks guys!). Anyway, they charged me $10 over for my Godfather set, even though I had used a $10 promotional certificate. Had it not been for you, I wouldn't have caught it. Thanks again. :D
|
Well, they just did it to me again. It was a pre-order that I had forgotten about. Anyway, they overcharged me by $18.57 ($10 gift certificate and $8.57 share the love.) I called to have them credit my account which they said they would. Plus, they apologized a lot. Server problems, blah, blah, blah.
I asked them if they were going through all their orders to correct this. The befuddled rep said, "Um, well, for the ones who call." Talk about buyer beware! Check your orders and your credit card charges VERY carefully. |
Same thing happened to me today. A $15.00 coupon disappeared. Got it fixed but they are becoming quite a pain.
Watch 'em like a hawk. |
Yikes, I just had an order ship where they removed (a) the coupon; (b) the STL credit; and (c) the free shipping promo. I was charged almost $22 more than I should have been. Yikes!
If it hasn't been made clear yet... make sure to double-check ALL of your Amazon orders as they ship. There are clearly some issues right now with their order system overcharging. |
Ditto!
I just saw my CC get billed $25 more than expected because of a missed Amazon promo GC. Of course the CSR said she'd fix the problem, so we'll see. The last time I had a problem with Amazon was last Christmas and when I called that time, they were so much nicer and willing to help. They would say stuff like "We'll send you a $10 promo for your trouble" or "We'll give you free shipping on your next order" or "We'll give you a hummer while you wait" :o ... Well, maybe they didn't say all of that, but the point is that they were far more lenient in the CSR department when Amazon was trading between $40 to $100/share. I should have shorted! |

To the people who've lost coupons, does your order status page still show the coupon, or were they removed from there as well? I'm wondering cos all my orders still show promo discounts and I'm hoping this crap won't happen to me.

Originally posted by Maliboo To the people who've lost coupons, does your order status page still show the coupon, or were they removed from there as well? I'm wondering cos all my orders still show promo discounts and I'm hoping this crap won't happen to me. But when the order has shipped, the Order Summary Page shows this: Near the top of the page on the right there is Order Total which shows the correct amount. Then your order is listed and the wrong total is shown followed by Total Paid by [fill in type of credit card]: [Wrong Amount]. Then follows Payment Information which shows the order as it should be, ending with Grand Total for This Order: [Correct Amount]. You get an email saying your credit card has been charged the wrong amount. If this sounds confusing, it is. But upon calling them I am indeed finding that they have charged me the wrong amount. They promise to credit your card the amount of the coupon you lost (I'll have to make sure they actually do this). They also promise to send you a confirming email which they still have not done two days later. You might want to call them and ask them to make sure your order is charged correctly when it is shipped. |
I received GF set, but they charged the wrong amount - ~$20 more! Here's what Amazon did, 1) remove STL, 2) remove coupon, and 3) add shiping!
|
No problem with the order total here. Did you guys place your order when amazon had the buy 2 item get free shipping promotion? It seems that was the source of some recent problems.
|
Originally posted by eau No problem with the order total here. Did you guys place your order when amazon had the buy 2 item get free shipping promotion? It seems that was the source of some recent problems. It was orders placed after the free shipping ended that have been messed up. Question, eau: Regarding your order totals: are you talking about the totals that appear before the items are shipped or after. As I said in an above post, my order totals always showed the correct amount until an order was shipped. Then I got the bizarre situation I described above. Edited to add: I just looked at my order summary pages for my orders that were charged wrong. There now appear messages saying that my credit card has been credited with the correct coupon amounts. Yay. |
