How Do You Get An Amazon GC As Compensation For A Misprice?
Boy, it was hard to figure out where to post this, but I figure the Bargains Forum is the closest one.
OK, here's the deal, as you all know, there have been a number of Amazon mispricings lately, and many people order these, expecting that, at least they will get a GC as compensation it the price is changed. Subsequent postings seem to indicate that some people do, indeed get compensation GCs, while others don't. Some even seem to get the DVD at the mismarked price. Also, some get $10 GCs, others get $15 or $20.
Recently, I ordered the De Niro set, and when that was cancelled, I spent a lot of time on the phone with a CSR who kept stating, "well, there's nothing I can do." Finally, I asked him point blank for a $10 GC, and he said, "I can do that," and I got my GC. My friend just spent time on the phone with three CSRs, the first was surly, the second was clueless, and the third was spacey. But she finally got a GC -- $5 only.
Before that, I ordered the Classic Monsters set, and I had to email 5 times and almost lose it before I got a GC. I also had to specifically ask for one.
So, for those of you who seem to get GCs as compensation fairly easily, could you post, as closely as possible, the wording of your exchange? Do you have to specifically ask for the GC? Do they ever offer it? If you ask, how do you ask? What do you say to prompt the GC?
If you let us know, I think that will help everyone next time in getting a bargain by getting at least a GC if they do not get the DVD for the mismarked price.

Here's the last letter I sent them this was after I was told I'm a cheat and a fraud because of STL, after they removed free shipping from orders placed before and after the 'free shipping promo' and after the Universal mis-price.
For the record I never asked for compensation, nor expected it.
End result of all of this was a $10 GC in my mailbox somewhere - I'm been meaning to send it to my Dad.
I believe this was sent right after I got the price confirmation request for the UM set, so enjoy:
I find this information very distressing.
Why? I understand that accidents may happen but as a loyal Amazon customer for the last three years, this is the second incident in the same week which has made me call your business practices into question.
Previously in the week I received a letter to inquiry I made about why the 'free shipping' was removed from a pair of my orders. I was told that this was because the period of free shipping - and the changes your company made to all my open orders - listed by your store was merely a 'test.'
Clearly this pricing was just another 'test.' I am to assume that all policies and prices on your site are merely 'tests?'
Hmmm... I have several open orders in my account, but I will think rather closely whether I want to continue as an Amazon.com customer. And as a shareholder in Amazon.com I will be releasing my holdings in the very near future.
If this is the future of e-commerce, the future looks bleak indeed.
Perhaps stores such as Best Buy, KB Toys, Borders and Barnes and Noble will treat their customers better.
(And yes I really dumped my Amazon stock...)

They basically told me to F Off. They sai that they cannot give me a promo GC. Its fine though, Amazon is a terrible etailer, and I will give my hard earned $$$ to deepdiscountdvd or someone cheaper. I only shop at Scamazon when I get GC's or something.

Im giving up to Amazon unless they have a killer deal , Im sick of ordering something to have them say no it's out of stock or nope we gotta change the price . I griped because out of my last 5 orders , 3 were cancelled and 1 was "Please let us bait and switch you" and the other they had on "Shipping soon" for about 16 hours (after they cancelled my orders and placed the box set "miss-price" to need attention ) . I would have cancelled my other order but I feel that's why they locked it up with a "Shipping soon" so I could not . I had 2 pre-orders and one I used a 5 off GC , and the other a 15 off GC . I dumped the 5 off order and only kept the other cause it was from the ram miss-price where the ram manufacturer paid the GC tabs' . I ripped a nasty email to them telling them how much joy I would have when I saw thier company listed on F##kedcompany.com over the craptastic service . They replied with a 5 off GC WHOOOOPIE !!!
SO a 5 off GC makes up for crappy service , intentional misspricing and cancelling orders ? Bah . I mostly buy Disney DVD's from Amazon anyway , and those now are MORE expensive at Scamazon than buying at a B&M plus I have to wait for them to ship . Amazon lost me as a regular customer , Ill just be watching for deals now that breaks it off in thier a$$ .

As usual, don't expect a GC. If you think because one person gets it so should you, then you are about to be surprised and mad again so we have to hear this FTC, BBB, and WTF stuff all over again.
Please spare me.

Hoc, what are you doing ordering from Amazon? I thought you hated these guys...
But I'm curious. I've gotten GCs from them, but nothing recently

In any event, this thread is not meant to be an "unload on Amazon" thread. I know they are spotty in giving GCs. I know people hate them. I know some will never shop there again. I am just hoping that, like adboy151, anyone who was successful in getting a GC would post how they did it, as an instruction to those who have not been successful. That way, the unsuccessful ones will be more likely to get a GC in the future. Find out the formula, follow the formula, and be one of those who does get the GC next time.

I was just kidding on the hating part, hence the smiley face. I'm try to see if I can get a GC for the DeNiro box set, but I doubt I will. I'll let you know if it works

I don't know what makes you think I hate them. They have engaged in some very questionable business practices lately, but I think that is more a sign of desparation than anything else. Nevertheless, if I can buy a $29 DVD from any etailer for $7, I will do so, as long as I have a reasonable chance of getting it. So, while that cuts out CDUniverse, Amazon is still OK.

I think I only made off with a $5 gc over the DeNiro incident. I did get $10 over the Akira Tin Box wait. I think I might have gotten an even bigger one over the old Jet Li set, but never got Jet Li. I don't call them, the best a CS will ever do is $10 and you have gambling odds that you will get anything. I believe, but might be wrong that the link to corporate is [email protected]. (or however his last name is spelled). The e-mail to corporate level CS is [email protected] and these are the guys you want to reach. You can debate them for days on end if you wish and they will respond, and respond quickly. If I have any hassles, I just forward the e-mail from the CS lackies to them and they respond with real answers. I never shop there with my hard cash and never will. They know we just use gc's and they are in business to supply gc's to everyone. That's their real business now, gc's for companies.
