Amazon OUT of Akira SE!

Amazon indicates they are out of the Akira SE even before it is released. Mine is still "on order", but not shipped.

Anyone else have one shipped?

All my Amazon pre-order DVDs shipped a day before the release dates. I won't see mine until next Thursday or Friday.

Strange b/c last week they sent me an Email offering a 25% discount to order it and 10 days later they are out before release?

Wierd. When I read this thread, I too a look at my Amazon order. It hasn't shipped, and claimed delivery date is 7/26-8/1.

What's a bit odd, is that under avalability, it says the release date was the 17th. Looks like they've got another data entry cock-up on their hands.

And the entry switches between the "out of stock" page and the "out of print" page depending on when you click on it...

A call yielded... "we'll look into it..."

I talked to an "Account Specialist" at Amazon today who sounded slightly cute, regarding my House DVD problems. I also brought up the fact that my Akira DVD hadn't shipped yet, while others' had, and she checked into it. She said "Well, you should still get yours... when we get another shipment of the product in from the company. We got all of the product in for about 80 orders when we got our first shipment, and we requested about 400 more. It just depends on when we get them in". In other words... my order's as good as cancelled. Unless Anchor Bay starts re-pressing LE's. I decided to try ordering elsewhere, I'll see how that turns out. If I get two, I get two, but I'd sure as heck better get one.

I just got off the phone with an Amazon CSR. He said that mine hadn't shipped yet as they were out of them. He also said that he didn't know for sure when/if it would - per him, they've gotten 1000's of orders for this disk.

The upside is that since it wont ship tomorrow, I can try to locate one tomorrow at a B&M (BB?). If I find one, then I can still cancel with Amazon.

The downside is that I had a $25 (ofoto) credit with them, and total cost of Akira through Amazon was going to be $7.65, shipped.

*sigh*

A side note: If anyone ordered this from amazon and it HASN'T SHIPPED YET, if you still want the LE Tin, DVDPlanet has it in stock and is shipping it. I ordered mine from there last night, called the CSR today to make sure that they still had some in stock, and I was told that mine shipped out this morning. If yours hasn't shipped from Amazon.. it probably won't.

I suppose there's the bright side to this failed order with Amazon. I should have my copy from BB tomorrow.

When I ordered the movie, I did not expect the B&Ms to be carrying the movie, especially the tin, as a special. So I pre-ordered it.

Guess I guessed wrong, huh? At least I know I'm getting a tin.

At least it gives the chance to catch up on my Die Hard and Urusei Yatsura box sets.

Enough with the one-upmanship. I pre-ordered and used a coupon, so basically, it's a wash whether I got it through Amazon or Best Buy.

I had no idea how popular Anime was until I went to J&R Music World, NYC this afternoon. I've never seen a dvd fly off the shelf so fast as the Akira limited SE ($27.99). One guy bought a whole case for $600+ bucks (obviously gonna ebay them when copies start to really dry up). It appears the word is out that these are harder to find then most expected. Are they???

I would think at 100,000 LE release (?) that there wouldn't much of a problem for quite some time. but the way people were grabbing them up at the B&M you would think the Godfather Trilogy was released early.

Do you think there is really going to be a market for them?

BTW - J&R said they would NOT be getting the SE 2-disc version without the tin.

I just picked the LE up from Best Buy in SouthCenter (Seattle) for $27.99. They had about 30 copies in the Anime section on the bottom row.

I'm in the same boat. Paid for with GC and ordered back in May of course. No Akira shipped yet for me. Sent e-mail will wait and see what happens. If general CS don't help, next step is the special e-mail: [email protected]
