Mine wasn't. I used a $30 off $150 at that time. Most of my order was fulfilled and charged. Except for that last preorder that shipped 6 months later. By that time my cc already expired.

I could be wrong on this, but I believe a company only has 90 days with which to charge you for any purchases (purchases already delivered, that is).
Maybe you should investigate it further, I believe Buy.com wouldn't have much of a case since they waited so long to bill you.

Damn. I keep getting that error message posted above whenever I try to verify. Oh well, not my problem.

Even if its charged against a Credit Card that you no longer have they can still charge it. The issuing bank will accept it as a valid charge and come after you to make the payment. I know because its happened to me before!

I've been looking for some information on online purchasing laws and was wondering if anyone had some good pages on it? seems to be a hard topic to get detailed laws on.

i think the problem with some orders may be
when they ship seperately and bill seperately

my card generates one time use credit cards that
become invalid when buy.com tries to charge
to the card a second (or more) time

Well, I guess it comes down to doing the right thing here people. If you know you got your item from them and you never paid for it, then just pay for it. Yeah, don't look at me like that. You remember that whole process of paying for something when you purchase it, right?

Those of us that order a lot online have a little problem keeping track with orders and such, but chances are that most people here know when they have gotten away with something good. They usually don't say anything about it. Very few go ahead and start bragging here in the forum. Of course, when they get screwed they start bitching with the usual "buy.com sucks" thread. It all works both ways.

We all have taken advantage of buy.com's coupons in the aftermath of reel.com. The least we can do is call the 1-800 number and set things straight if you know you owe them money. That and to make sure they don't start charging you for items you did pay for already.

Not to sound preachy, but that's just my opinion.

I was too lazy to call so I just went ahead gave them a new credit card information and hopefully the bill will be correct.

It was done to me also. I was charged for an item on a preorder I returned in February. They tell me they will refund the cost of DVD and not shipping. Hmmm.

Charging for back orders has happened to me with whatshotnow.com. I recently found a $68 charge on my card for an order that I placed back in December 2000. I tried to match the charge with an order I had made, but it was so difficult I gave up and called my credit card customer service.

He told me that there's a 60 day statute of limitations on charges. If the item was shipped to me in December, the merchant has 60 days to charge. If it is not charged by that time, you can dispute the charge and most likely get them reversed. Which is what I did. A company that is so screwed up that they forget to charge you more than 60 days after the purchase doesn't deserve your business or your money. Maybe denial of payment will be a motivation to them to get their act together.

I've been double-charged buy Buy.com twice. This last time they said it was because of a 'free shipping' promotional coupon I used, which had a glitch in it. They wouldn't answer my emails, and when someone finally did answer, they gave their 800 number to call to get it straightened out. When I called, they said they couldn't do it, I had to handle via email... After a few weeks of this, I finally talked to the right person in their credit department, who informed me that not only had I been double-charged (to the tune of $300 or so), but that there was an additional unneccesary charge of $177 that I wasn't even aware of. So it took almost a month to get this whole mess fixed with a credit to my Visa card. I have vowed never to use buy.com again. Their DVD prices may still be the best, but their people are incompetent and it isn't worth the B.S.
