From the above - While music fans with diverse tastes will surely be pleased and surprised by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s just-announced newest nominees, many rockists and purists will no doubt loudly complain that the institution should take its name more literally. Last year’s ballot was the hall’s most rock-dominated in years, but depending on how the Hall’s international panel of 1,200 artists, historians, and industry professionals votes, the Class of 2026 might shape up to be the least straight-ahead “rock” class yet.

One of the two people I attended with last year won't be able to go this year because he's expecting around that time. May attend if the other person I went with is down for a repeat though there are no acts that reach the level of Outkast or The White Stripes for me personally, Lauryn Hill coming closest. Will she pull some Lauryn Hill type bullshit though?

You don't have to love a band to consider them worthy of induction. I never listen to Iron Maiden but certainly feel they should have been inducted decades ago.

Only ones I'd vote for are Oasis and the Wu-Tang Clan.

Correct. I can get behind a lot of the people being inducted and not be a fan. I never liked metal, so Iron Maiden is a spin-the-dial band for me. I have respect for the fan base of all of them* I wouldn't see most of them live, and I live for live music. I own albums by Billy Idol, INXS, Jeff Buckley, Luther Vandross, Maria Carey, Melissa Etheridge, Oasis, Pink, Phil Collins, Sade, and The Black Crowes. When was the last time Sade was relevant after her debut album?


*Maria Carey's Christmas song is a hate crime and rivaled only by Paul McCarney wonderful xmas for the worst Christmas song. She has an amazing range and a great voice, but I don't see her as someone I want to listen to now.

That is insane that many of those aren't in there by now. but I guess influence only goes so far.

The Monkees are probably fucked because of perception but if you know their story and actually listen to their albums, they may have started manufactured but they evolved into so much more. Still kinda stunned they aren't in there though.

I'd take that bet. I suspect it's Iron Maiden's time with voters, but even if not, Mariah Carey would be the pop lightweight to be inducted this year, not Shakira.

I agree. 130+ million album sales, almost 50 years of selling out big tours, bands already in the HOF who cite them as huge influences (e.g. Metallica) and I seriously doubt they get in.
