Re: 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Slayer, The Misfits and Motley Crue (just based on the first five albums alone) deserve to be in before everyone on that list besides Maiden and Mariah Carey. This is my yearly "the RNRHOF is a joke" post.

Im thinking I should vote anyway. By voting for all of the legitimate rock bands, the ones that get in will create openings for others next year. I even left out The Pixies and The Smiths to keep it down to 7.

Better get Phil and Billy in, they're over 70.

The Smiths not being in yet is NUTS. People must just hate Morrissey as a human being. I actually get that.

My votes
Iron Maiden
New Order
Wu Tang Clan
Mariah Carey
Sade
Phil Collins
abstained for 7th vote
Though Lauryn Hill and Jeff Buckley might have 2 of the best albums of all time............ ,but think they should probably wait for a less crowded year
And while I think Rebel Yell is a pretty underrated album, I don't think Billy Idol made anything else that warrants a vote and he wasn't succesful enough commercially to be voted in for that reason ala a Bon Jovi or Journey. Like he has 3 top 10 hits, and 2 of them are cover songs that are considerably worse then the original.

I'm stunned they didn't make it on their first or second ballots, but after a HUGELY successful World Tour in 2025, I feel they have to make it this year.

What are your thoughts on Oasis? Personally I think they're awesone and produced in (What's The Story) Morning Glory, one of the best albums of the 90s. They're much more popular in Britain than America, but they're still popular here, and they're SO popular in Great Britain that it's fair to say that no band formed after 1979 is as popular there today as they are.

INXS?
They had a brief short career and if Hutchence did not kill himself would they have a big legacy?

If the Stone Roses had managed to stay together and not implode they would/could have been far bigger than Oasis. That first album in 1989 was massive in England (and especially the North of England where both bands are from). I was still living there then and the buzz about them was huge. but drugs and egos blew them apart and although their second album had some great songs on it they were already circling the drain.

Yes. They have a big legacy as it is. Several top selling albums, countless singles, a "new wave" band that crossed over into the mainstream and achieved success. Absolutely HOFers

IRON MAIDEN
JOY DIVISION/NEW ORDER
BILLY IDOL
WU TANG CLAN
In that order. I kind of want to see a jam with Maiden, Billy Idol, and New Order with Wu Tang thrown into the mix.
BLACK CROWES and OASIS
Kind of odd choices. I love the Black Crowes, but they're one of those bands that feels like they're a conglomeration of their influences. Doubly so for Oasis.
PHIL COLLINS
Should probably be in for "In the Air Tonight" alone.
MARIAH CAREY
SADE
PINK
SHAKIRA
Pop fluff. All three will probably get in before Maiden.

Re: 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
But who cites them as a major influence on becoming a musican?
I just think of that brief run in the mid to late 80's and nothing else.

Does anybody that was born after the 80's knows or ever heard of INXS or cites thens as a musical influence?
Name 5 songs everybody should know and recognize?
Their music is not a big presense in movies and TV soundtracks either.

I am NOT a fan of INXS. I don't own a single recording by them, and don't plan to. I named all those songs off the top of my head without Google. They were a popular band. And like I snarkily said, "musical influence" is not a requirement for HoF entry last time I checked. They belong in though.

Re: 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
I'm kind of between you two here. They don't make my cut this year, but I wouldn't mind if they did get inducted. I just think they're mid-tier 80s pop-rock band. Fine, but I don't see a big difference between them and, say, Simple Minds. Nobody is gonna list them among the top 20 or 30 artists of their decade (which also is not any sort of requirement), but I don't think most would include Oasis as one of the top 90s bands for example. And Billy Idol is I think a more iconic 80s pop-rock artist than they are.

Oasis would probably make a lot of top-ten lists of 90s bands depending on who was compiling the lists. Rock really exploded in the 1990s, but it also balkanized like crazy, too. Heavy metal (Hair metal died, but Metallica and Pantera carried the metal torch), punk revival (Green Day, Offspring, et al), Nu-Metal, Alternative, Post-grunge, Lilith Fair stuff. Easily top 10 if you were into alternative or pop, not so much if you were moshing at a Pantera gig.
Billy Idol? He was like one of the faces of the 1980s. You think 1980s, and see his face sneering back at you.
