The popular vote counts total like one media vote right? Like not much at all?

FFS is Iron Maiden not getting in? I can't fucking stand metal and even i know they belong in the HoF. I mean, they're so synonymous with the genre, when Bill and Ted were told they were going to be put in the iron maiden, their response was "excellent!!"

Again, this is just the popular vote. Only counts as one vote towards the total, out of about 40.

It is surprising Phil Collins is still not in the HOF and should have been inducted a long time ago.

INXS never did anything for me. I don't know that I could name a song of theirs, and I believe I only know of them because of Michael Hutchence. Looking at a timeline it looks like most of their success was before a time I would have been listening. When I was old enough to appreciate them, it looks like their albums weren't as successful in the US and wouldn't have been on my radar. And then Michael died.

Need You Tonight is a truly great song and a great video.

If/when Oasis gets inducted, they should also induct Blur the same night without telling anyone beforehand, then give Blur the pimp spot at the end.

Gorillaz probably have a better chance of getting in than Blur. They were bigger state side. They can still have Damon do it though.

Yes maybe they are bigger in Europe and Australia than in America.
You don't hear a lot of their music in movies and commercials either.
Kick is the only album I know and which was a huge smash in the U.S but what came before and after?

Remember they did like an American Idol / Star Search TV show to find a new lead singer? I wonder if he gets inducted as well?

Funnily enough, he just popped up in my Facebook feed. There's actually going to be a 20th anniversary reunion show with some of the contestants later this year at Niagara Falls. It doesn't look like JD is involved though.

Mods, please change the name of this thread to "2026 Music Used in Movies and Commercials Hall of Fame", as that's clearly a more important indicator of success than say, several multi platinum records and top ten singles.

Re: 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Correct. The fan vote decides one ballot. There are about 1000 ballots. Those 1000 are industry execs and all previous inductees. The 40 you're thinking of is likely the nominating committee. I've heard Eddie Trunk, one of the 1000, explain this several times on his radio show.

But half of the U.S. population has no idea who they are since their biggest success came in the 80's and their music is not timeless.

And what percentage of the US population do you think have no idea who Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Midnighters, Laura Nyro, The Zombies, T. Rex, Todd Rundgren, The Spinners or Bad Company are?

I'll see your Midnight Oil and raise you a Hoodoo Gurus if we're talking Down Under...
That said, yeah, I like Midnight Oil way more than INXS, but I still say you can't deny INXS' crossover popularity in the late 80s early 90s, they dominated the airwaves, even if Jeff never heard them.
