20th Annual Holiday Challenge

OFFICIAL RULES
-Movies, TV shows/specials, Short Films & Cartoons Count
-The movie or TV show DOES NOT need to be holiday oriented. It could simply take place during the holiday season (i.e. Batman Returns, Gremlins, Die Hard, etc.)
-Although the movie doesn't have to take place during the holiday season, a MAJORITY of the film HAS to take place during the holiday season. No movies with just one scene during the holiday season. If you're not sure, ASK!
-Any holiday from Thanksgiving through New Years Day may count
-A film can only be viewed once, UNLESS you watch it and then watched it again with a commentary
-There is no global goal, shoot for a personal goal. Whatever you want your goal to be go for it. For returning participants maybe your goal should be to beat a previous year's goal.
-Again, like past years there will be a THREE Wild Card option to include movies or TV shows you might watch during the holiday season that is not holiday oriented. Some families have watched movies like Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory every Christmas So anything is allowed, up to 3.
-Specials such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, New Years Rockin' Eve, etc. can count, but you MUST watch the entire special in order to count it.
-PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE number your lists! If you do not number your list it will not count towards the challenge
-It doesn't matter how you see the film, VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, Laserdisc, YouTube, Streaming services, Theatrical release, it can be counted. Just have fun.
-The challenge will begin at dusk on Saturday, November 23, 2024 and will end at dawn on Thursday, January 2, 2024.
2024 Challenge discussion begins here due to request for a new thread.

If anyone follows the Great American Family Channel on YouTube they have a bunch of their Christmas movies on there to watch for free. I hope to watch a few of them for the challenge.

A couple weeks ago I was at Walmart and found both Santa Claus is Coming to Town and I believe Muppet Family Christmas , or one of the non Christmas carol muppet movies in the $5 bin.

I can't believe it's been 20 years, well 19 since it started in 2005. I'm so happy that everyone has kept this alive on these years. I dropped out of hosting because of personal mental issues, but I try to partake in it every year.
I am looking forward to this year!

Challenge starts tomorrow night. What's everyone kicking it off with? I think I'm going to check out Red One at the theater and maybe The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, but the times aren't really lining up for me, so it may just be Red One.

My first week is usually for all the Thankgiving movies and TV shows. I might watch Thanksgiving or Blood Rage tomorrow night.

I usually try to fit in Son in Law, Planes Trains and Automobiles, and Dutch for the first week to over Thanksgiving. But I do need to watch Thanksgiving again as I haven't viewed it since release day. I don't think I've ever seen Blood Rage.

Here's my Thanksgiving movies in my collection.
- Eli Roth's Thanksgiving
- Love at the Thanksgiving Day Parade (Hallmark)
- Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
- Grumpy Old Men
- Thankskilling
- Thankskilling 3
Through the time span of the movie Grumpy Old Men starts around Thanksgiving and ends around Christmas so I think it's great to watch the first week of the Challenge. Blood Rage is a Thanksgiving horror movie that was on Tubi but I've found it on YouTube. I've wanted to watch it for years but never got around to it.

Also I can't forget Son-In Law as a Thanksgiving movie. I have it in my digital collection after my dvd stopped working.

Ready for this to start! I've already consumed around 30 Christmas movies. I've been watching all the new Hallmarks and some older ones I missed.
I never saw Eli Roth's Thanksgiving, so I might get that one in between all the twee. And my husband is ready for some classics like White Christmas.
Thanks again for kicking off the challenge, MysterioMan007!
I'm doing a ranking list for the 2024 premieres again this year:

Re: 20th Annual HOLIDAY Challenge DISCUSSION Thread
I'm not exactly sure what I want to start with tonight. There are always four or five shows that I like to possibly kick things off with. I have been looking forward to this all week however. Especially this year because yesterday was a very depressing anniversary which made for a rough day and personal problems making me wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
ETA: If anyone here is interested, I heard on a local radio morning show a week or two ago that cabletv.com is running a contest where the winner gets paid $2500 for watching a holiday movie a day for 25 days. The deadline to submit your entry is November 29 with the winner to be announced December 25. In addition, besides the money, the winner is also awarded a year's subscription to multiple streaming platforms.

I'm looking forward to starting! I just realized it started tonight so I don't have anything prepped, but have time tomorrow to get started. I'm heading to my sister's and we pretty much watch every Friends Thanksgiving and Christmas episode because she's obsessed, so I know those will likely end up on my list this week, along with A Charlie Brown Christmas and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

Re: 20th Annual HOLIDAY Challenge DISCUSSION Thread
My first night of Viewing was the 80s slasher Blood Rage which was pretty good. A twin brother is innocently locked up while the killer sibling is loose which leads to a showdown when he escapes the asylum all happening on Thanksgiving. The version on YouTube is cut but I thought it was pretty good. The Arrow blu-ray is sadly out of print but hopefully it reemerges maybe on 4k in the future.

I saw Red One last night. It was fun, but The Rock and Chris Evans didn't really break out of their comfort zone for it. Knocked a couple of Thanksgiving films out today, but I'm ready to move on to Christmas with the Prep & Landing shorts, a new yearly viewing for me since I do enjoy them immensely.

Is anyone else having technical issues with their lists? Each time I hit the Edit button, my entire list disappears! I've had to copy everything first before I hit Edit to add anything.

Re: 20th Annual HOLIDAY Challenge DISCUSSION Thread
The edit feature is working fine for me. If anyone has Peacock they do a really great job at curating their platform for holiday viewing. I went into the TV section and they have collections on some of their shows of Holiday Episodes. I've been watching Thanksgiving Episodes of The Middle and then hope to watch the New Girl and Roseanne collection of Thanksgiving Episodes.
