Favorite beginnings and endings??

Caught the start of UP on broadcast TV. It's one of my all-time favorite starting sequences on film. It was unique in how it gave you all the backstory you needed without any dialog which reminded me of what is probably my all-time favorite ending in Last of the Mohicans. Another sequence that conveyed some powerful emotions without dialog. That driving score just gets you all pumped up to the end.

So what are some of your favorite beginnings and endings to films and why?

The beginning and the end of the Lord of the Rings.

Perfect opening and closing. Nothing beats that.

Yes ALL the endings. I never got the complaint about the multiple endings. It's a 12 hour saga. It warrants all those endings to tell a complete story.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

All time classic and beloved opening sequence and the ending with the Ark basically being hidden again from the eyes of man in a warehouse while we see the swastika image being burned away from the outside of the crate just feels like the right ending.

The original Cars: the opening is a fantastic racing sequence that immediately puts you where you need to be and the ending is one of the greatest displays of sportsmanship seen in a sports film.

It's too bad all the stuff in between is such a drag.

Beginning: The Way Of The Gun. Shame the rest of the film didn't live up to that.

Ending: Memories Of Murder. If you know, you know.

A couple of Tarantino flicks. The super tense opening farmhouse sequence in Inglourious Basterds is fantastic. I also love the diner scene at the beginning of Reservoir Dogs.

It’s polarizing but I absolutely love the ending to No Country for Old Men.

An odd one, but I also love the final shot of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman
Spoiler:
sticking the stake in the ground
at the end of Far and Away.

Surprised no mention of the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, considering Donald's recent passing. Hard to beat that ending.
