There are like so many Star Trek threads, but nothing about the whole film franchise from 1979 to today. And a lot of single one-off threads about movies that never happened. Thought it would be better to post and discuss news into one thread. Or you all can discuss the entire series here if you choose. When a notable movie actually happens, then we can do an independent thread.

I’ll believe a new Star Trek movie is coming out when it actually happens. There have been so many announcements that haven’t panned out/got cancelled at this point.

If something ever happens I’m curious what it’ll be. Reboot TOS again? At this point I’d say the Kelvin timeline is done. TNG reboot could be an option and may make the most sense. Third option is something new but that’s a gamble and may just bomb and the franchise would go back to sitting on a shelf for however many years.

They already had an entire series dedicated to that premise.

Star Trek 3 is getting a new 4K re-release in theaters in the UK (for now) in June for it's 40th anniversary.

Is it still perceived that the even numbered films are the better ones? I always found the first film by Wise with V'Ger was boring.

I like a lot of the odd numbered films personally. The Motion Picture I’ve gained a lot of appreciation for.

Always have liked The Search For Spock and unpopular opinion but I kind of like it more than The Wrath of Khan. Also have always liked Generations a lot. Kirk’s death is unpopular but they committed to it and didn’t reverse it (not counting the novel sequel). Plus he at least went out heroically. Also like the interaction with Kirk and Picard.

I love the first six Original Crew films. I saw Wrath Of Khan with the family at a drive in and the slugs in the ears gave me nightmares for years. I enjoy the Next Generation films but hate, loathe and despise the Kelvin trilogy almost as much as the Star Wars Prequel and Sequel trilogies.

Mike86, I can see why you like Star Trek III as good as if not more than The Wrath Of Khan. Truthfully, if you take out the battle that starts before the Enterprise enters the Mutara Nebula the film becomes one that I would not prioritize if I decided to re-watch Star Trek films.

To me, the battle does almost one hundred percent of the heavy lifting in the film to make it thrilling to watch. Otherwise, the parts with the earworm and other icky stuff, not a fan.

That being said, I saw III in theaters and have never had a real urge to watch it again. I feel that were I to watch it now I would probably find quite a few scenes to be rather slow that drag the pace of the film down. III is tricky because Spock is basically recreated from the ground up and I never expected it to be an action packed sequel so not being a hardcore Trek Fan (not even remotely close to being a Trekkie) I enjoy most of the Star Trek films but find quite a few that I have no desire to re-watch.

Also, like most everyone else in this thread, I will believe a new Star Trek movie has been released when I am looking at the ticket QR code from the ticket I purchased to see the film in theaters (I have seen all three of the Abrams films, Abrams had a hand in all three, yes?), lol.

I found it boring up until about 3 or 4 years ago. The day I enjoyed it I felt old. 😄

As far as 4K releases TMP just got a remaster and III is getting a rerelease next week. Did they ever remaster II? What about the others IV, V and VI? I'm wanting to upgrade to 4K but don't necessarily want to double dip if there's another release but also with the state of physical media I'm afraid of them also going OOP.

I was very sad I wasn't able to make it to the theatrical rerelease if TMP a couple years ago. It's one of the movies I really want to experience in the theater. Mainly just for the glory shot of the Enterprise in the beginning. You just don't get that kind of scene in movies anymore. Nobody is going to put to screen 5 minutes of just slow panning shots without some kind of explosion or action scene or witty repartee.

Such a beautiful scene. One of my favorites.

I don't know how many of you are aware of this. But, a documentary about William Shatner came out a few months ago called "You can call me Bill" It had a limited theatrical release and was crowd funded. It covers his career, including Star Trek.

Saw it was coming out but it wasn’t playing in theaters near me. Big Shatner fan so I’ll just grab the Blu-ray.

That’s a relief. Although I’m sure a feature length documentary that only covers TJ Hooker and Rescue 911 would be just as interesting.

Wow 51? Kidney disease. Nobody just dies from kidney disease. There has to be some kind of insult to the kidneys for them to go into failure. Especially at that young age.



That's terrible. Didn't know that about him. Based on this I wouldn't doubt if it was hepatorenal failure due to alcoholism.

I’m just relaying the news. Don’t kick and scream at me if you don’t like their work.

"Dungeons and Dragons" was great. "Game Night", not so much. But still, I'm pissed they've wiped the slate clean and starting over.

I've said this before, but the Trek universe is so big that it would be easy enough to create a new ship and crew, set it in a distant part of the galaxy (like Voyager) and just have a consultant on hand to make sure they don't step on any toes of everything else going on.

It may seem trite, but a Guardians of the Galaxy type crew might be their best bet ( I know Prodigy tried this, but it should be a crew of people already in Starfleet, just maybe the weirdos on the fringes).

Give me a live action film franchise with the crew of the Cerritos post Lower Decks.
