Trina Robbins, pioneering comics artist, has died (04/10/2024) at age 85

She created the first comic book produced entirely by women, It Ain’t Me, Babe (1970) and several other comic books devoted to women's issues.

She was also the first woman to draw a full issue of Wonder Woman: the 1986 limited series The Legend of Wonder Woman. Robbins drew all four issues, which were written by Kurt Busiek. However, Robbins was not the first female artist to draw an issue of Wonder Woman; Jan Duursema was one of several artists who drew Wonder Woman #300, February 1983. The mini-series was the first time a woman had drawn a full issue of Wonder Woman. Most of what I know about Robbins is limited to online articles and mentions in The Comics Journal, so I’m not really familiar with her work.

There was a video tribute to her on The Today Show.

Here’s the Wikipedia article. This link will take you to the Press Reader. From there, click on the magnifying glass and type in "Robbins".

EDIT: 04/18--The Today Show video correctly mentions Robbins being the first woman to draw a full issue of Wonder Woman, while Jan Duursema had drawn for the title three years earlier. This was a point of contention on the Wikipedia talk page on Robbins.

I can't say I have read much of her comic book related output, but I sure as heck knew who Trina Robbins is, and how important she was to the medium. Because of folks like her the general public started to understand that comic books were not for dudes only.
RIP Trina.

I’d dig it out and finally read it this weekend if my ~100 boxes were organized well.
