Frankie Goes to Hollywood

Should they be remembered as one hit wonders or a band that got forgotten and deserves more acclaim and had a bigger career like Depeche Mode?

Maybe they were pioneers by being openly gay in the 80's when it was not accepted.

I wanted to download some of their songs on Itunes but you have to buy the full album so I just got the CD at Amazon.

I was young and had no idea what they were talking about with "Relax" and why it was so controversial

I saw the video for that and wow that was crazy.

The Village People were openly gay and way more successful almost a decade earlier and their music is far more lasting. Frankie is a one hit wonder, nothing more.

Mostly agree with Decker but two hit wonder. Two Tribes was also a big hit.

I stand corrected. Two hit wonder. And Two Tribes is a pretty good song.

"Welcome to the Pleasuredome" bangs as a whole album. I still listen to it.

If you like that, you should watch the whole movie that the music video was taken from: Brian DePalma's Body Double. It's an '80s classic.

Welcome To The Pleasuredome is great pretty much all the way thru. It doesn’t sound like any other album from that era or that scene.

Liverpool was hit and miss.

Don't put them in the same class since Frankie Goes to Hollywood is a way better band overall

Back when I was a kid in the 80s, I always thought “Relax” was a fun up tempo club song.

It didn’t hit me until I was much older the song was about gay sex and they literally use the word C** in the lyrics

For starters, they were an actual band...

I remember a local radio station playing several albums starting at midnight on NYE. I recorded this one, Purple Rain and Heartbeat City. Was blown away by Welcome to the Pleasure Dome, both the album as a whole and the song.

Re: Frankie Goes to Hollywood

is that the only video for the song? I just watched it and can't remember most of it which is unusual as I always liked the song and would have watched this on MTV- seem to recall lasers and a live preformace for this song.

Yeah, the "Christmas-time" video for that one was a big hit with the religious side of my extended family.

Re: Frankie Goes to Hollywood

Welcome to the Pleasuredome is a favorite of mine. I wish it would get airplay but it's way too long for radio and I'd hate it if they chopped it.

Absolutely love Frankie Goes to Hollywood. The 80's were great times. His music was transcending.

Memory is funny thing...I thought this was a HUGE seller in the US (Welcome to the Pleasuredome that is). Wikipedia tells me the album only went Gold. I am shocked. Certainly a good world wide one however.
I seem to recall really enjoying it as well.

I'm surprised that that album did not hit platinum back in the day too. That song and the 'Frankie Says Relax" shirts were everywhere for a decade it seemed.

Not all those shirts fit right, though.
