Tony Bennett has passed away at age 96

If you have Paramount Plus, you can watch the 60 Minutes episode that reported on his final concert in 2021. Very beautiful and sad, but also uplifting.

Re: Tony Bennett has passed away at age 96

Took my dad to his show with Lady Gaga at Planet Hollywood in like 2013 or so, and it was great. He still sang well and was so sweet. They sang together, then one would leave and the other would solo, then come back on stage. At one point, he was leaving and Gaga said "I hate to see him go". At that moment, Tony turned to the pianist in the back and (off mic) asked him "What did she say?", he told him, then Tony picked up his mic and said "Then I'm going to stay right here". He sat on the piano bench next to the pianist and watched Gaga do her solo set. It was very sweet 😋. My dad isn't a concert guy, but he loved that show. So glad I took him.

Seemed like a nice man. I’m glad he found an audience late in life and that he even became friends with Lady Gaga. I’m not really a fan of crooner type songs, but I can appreciate what he did for music industry. May he RIP.

The SF Giants play "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" after every home game win. The legend lives on...

Re: Tony Bennett has passed away at age 96

Tony Bennett Unplugged was one of the first DVDs and segments from it are included on some of the early demo discs. In 1982 one of the first stereo CED videodiscs was “A Tony Bennett Songbook” which the cover stated would be “his historic first videodisc” but was also his last.

I only saw him once, about 10 years ago at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. But even his advanced age, he still sounded fantastic!

RIP

I had this album and the second album he did with Lady Gaga

Maybe the last or one of the last crooners a dying breed.

Not only a great artist, but an amazing career reinvention late in his career, even though his style and song choices didn’t change that much.

I always listened to Sinatra more, but I got really hooked on his 1993 Fred Astaire album and from there gravitated to Astoria and Perfectly Frank. I kept buying his new albums after that, but they didn’t quite grab me in the same way.

I also liked his recent Gaga special.

Enjoyed his MTV Unplugged appearance back in '94 very much. Such a great gentleman ...

What a long and productive career, amazing longevity and his voice held up fairly well for decades. I'm actually a crooner fan but Bennett's music for me is behind singers like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. I'll give him credit for trying different things even into his advancing age.

Great singer! I saw him in concert back in 2001 in Concord, CA. k.d. lang opened for him. Took my mom to the show since she was a fan of both of them. We had front row seats. A really good show. k.d. lang even did a whole album of duets with him...but funny how she isn't mentioned at all in any of the articles about his passing...
