Retribution (2023, D: Antal) S: Liam Neeson

Only in theaters August 25th. Starring Liam Neeson, Noma Dumezweni, Lilly Aspell, Jack Champion, Embeth Davidtz, Matthew Modine.
Liam Neeson stars in Retribution, an immersive ticking clock thriller that straps audiences in for a high-octane ride of redemption and revenge.
When a mysterious caller puts a bomb under his car seat, Matt Turner (Neeson) begins a high-speed chase across the city to complete a specific series of tasks. With his kids trapped in the back seat and a bomb that will explode if they get out of the car, a normal commute becomes a twisted game of life or death as Matt follows the stranger’s increasingly dangerous instructions in a race against time to save his family.

Blown Away meets Speed.
It actually looks pretty decent. Anything to get the bad taste of Marlowe out.

Wow, Nimrod Antal finally directing a feature film. Last time he directed a feature was the Metallica film and Predators before that. He's been doing TV ever since Through the Never.

Why do I have the feeling that this will be on Amazon Prime Video or Paramount+ by Labor Day?

For some reference, Plane, also Lionsgate, got a 22 day run in theaters, before it went to $20 PVOD.
it’s not coming on streaming that fast.

This is out this weekend.
It was the Regal Mystery Movie last week. Anyone see it? I've heard it is pretty bad.

Seeing this on Sunday for the $4 National Cinema Day. For $4 why not?
Plus they have a $4 popcorn and soda combo at the Regal I'm going to.
I hated his last movie Marlowe from last year, but I did enjoy Memory, which also got trashed by the critics.

I saw this today and for about 60% of the movie I thought it was actually pretty good and tense. I'm guessing this movie is mostly European financed. Because story-wise, there was really no reason why this movie should have been set in Germany.
But, they revealed a "twist" that you could see coming from a million miles away. It was very contrived and I was like.....Really? And the movie just abruptly ends.
It was better than Marlowe, but gets a C+ from me. I liked the first 2 acts of the movie before the dumb "twist". So it wasn't a complete misfire. Only see if you're a big fan of Neeson.

Saw this tonight. Pretty good flick. Predictable - it's soooo obvious who the bad guy is (even though the movie "cheats" a bit in the process), but it's a brisk 90 minutes and as Djariya says above, it was much better than Marloe.
This might be the first Neeson action film that he literally spends 95 percent of the movie sitting down.
I'd give it a solid "B+"

Like DJariya said, the first hour or so of Retribution is reasonably tense and engaging before all the air is let out in the last act, leading to one of the most obvious twists of all time. The script is woefully underwritten, almost to the point where it seems like they went ahead and shot it with a rough outline. There are no characters here, only well worn cliches and archetypes. There is literally nothing here that you haven't seen a hundred times before. The ending feels like they ran out of money a week before they were scheduled to be done and just called it a day.
It's definitely not good, but I'm pretty much in on any of these Neeson thrillers. The last 3 or 4 years have seen a noticable decline in the quality of his output, and this isn't any sort of outlier in that respect, but they serve their purpose well enough. Most of the time I'll take a brisk 90 minutes of Neeson growling his way out of a jam over a $200 million, 2 1/2 hour cgi monstrosity.
