Better.

More intrigue and more wondering who is who.

Re: Secret Invasion (S1E02) - "Promise" - 6/28/23

Well that was interesting… not that we know much of Fury’s personal life, but if…
Spoiler:
… The skrull posing as Fury’s wife, Priscilla, is the skrull at the beginning (in the 1997 flashback) that introduced him to Gravik.

… which could mean…
Spoiler:
That Gravik might be carrying the face of Fury’s son.

… and if that’s true…
Spoiler:
Oh crap, this might just be the reason Fury keeps freezing around Gravik.

… and would it really take that long to find a place the Skrulls could call home? The promise was made in 1995… then we jump to 1997 and they’re still on Earth… and is it because Carol Danvers never came back? Wouldn’t it be her fault?

This ep was better than last week’s… but who am I kidding, I’ll keep watching regardless.

I would assume Fury was sidetracked with Avengers stuff for a few years, then the blip took him out of action for 5 years. So I would assume New Skrull Planet was on the back burner for a bit.

Do we think Fury knows his wife is a skrull? She switches to human mode before he sees her. Could she have been planted by the council to keep a closer eye on him?

But I also like the idea of him knowingly falling in love with an alien and marrying her.

Read Goldberg’s spoiler. He has some speculation about that

If Fury hasn’t had any contact with Dancers since she gave him the pager and took off, then the “planet seeking” is dead in the water except for the fact that Talos and his crew left Earth for a time (post Captain Marvel) and came back sooner than expected. It sounded to me that Fury was using Skrulls as an “Earth Protection Force” until the rise of the Avenger Initiative. But that’s another series to fill in those gaps.

Since Skrulls take a face and their memories, she could be a recent plant or have been there all along. I’m sure the next episode will give us a little more insight to that.

Re: Secret Invasion (S1E02) - "Promise" - 6/28/23

I liked this episode a little more than the premiere. Had some interesting backstory with Fury and the Skrulls. Notice how they avoided showing Brie Larson’s face in the 1995 flashback from Captain Marvel? I think it was to avoid paying her residuals. This episode had a very political thriller vibe. I’m curious about the end reveal about Fury’s wife being a Skrull. Rhodey seems different. Seems like a by the book Washington shill. At least we know the Avengers still exist in this.

Some interesting theories by Goldberg.

I feel like this series would have been better served by dropping the first two episodes at once. After the second episode I feel a lot more hooked than I did after the first.

Was I supposed to recognize the woman at the end?

It’s Fury’s wife.

This is the first time we’ve been introduced to her.

Yup, but I’m pretty sure the skrull portraying Fury’s wife is the same skrull who introduced Gravik to him in 1997.

When we saw the files on Extremis, Cull Obsidian, Frost Beasts and Groot, my son said “I wonder if they are making a Super Skrull?”

I stopped and was like “…….that’s 100 percent what that means”.

Spoiler:
I agree that Fury's "wife" was the same Skrull that was with Gravik at the time they were asking for volunteers.

But what do you mean by taking the face of Fury's son? Has a child of Fury's ever been mentioned before? I forget.

This episode was much better than the first one. It was worth watching for several scenes.

The train scene with Fury and Talos was enjoyable and Olivia Coleman plays a convincing badass...plus she is funny to boot.

Gravik appears he is going to be a much-needed charismatic and interesting new villain for Disney + shows, something that has been lacking in most. His round table scene was solid.

Also found the scene between Rhodey and Fury excellent and fun to watch.

No fast forward button needed so far! Yah!

Well…
Spoiler:
We didn’t know Fury had a wife… so it wouldn’t surprise me if he had a son too that Gravik “assumed” the identity of.

That’s my thought.

Fury did mention a wife in Winter Soldier, but it was in the context of "My wife kicked me out of the house," so it may have been a joke.

As someone who has been very anti Rhodes since he arrested Cap in Civil War I enjoyed them showing him for the asshole he is clearly.

How do we know Rhodes isn't a Skrull? Maybe he was replaced between Iron Man and Iron Man 2...
