Cobweb (2023) S: Lizzy Caplan, Antony Starr, Woody Norman, Cleopatra Coleman

In theaters July 21, 2023. Starring Lizzy Caplan, Woody Norman, Cleopatra Coleman, and Antony Starr.

Eight-year-old Peter is plagued by a mysterious, constant tap, tap from inside his bedroom wall – a tapping that his parents insist is all in his imagination. As Peter’s fear intensifies, he believes that his parents (Lizzy Caplan and Antony Starr) could be hiding a terrible, dangerous secret and questions their trust. And for a child, what could be more frightening than that?

Wow!! This is finally coming out. I saw an early screening of this 2 years ago. It was a very early rough cut with incomplete special effects. I don't recall that much about it, but it felt very PG-13-ish. We had to review it on a tablet at the end of the screening and got paid $20 via gift card.

I might watch this when it's a cheaper VOD rental or when it comes to Red Box. As I said earlier, I saw a rough cut of it with incomplete special effects. The creature effects weren't done yet at the early screening in 2021. They just inserted animated sketches. I am a little curious about the final product, but I wasn't that interested to see it in the theater.

Nothing special but a fine little horror flick. I liked it a lot and both Caplan and Starr were great.

I really liked this one. It’s like a modern Grimm fairy tale. The cinematography is fantastic. Although I’d kinda recommend waiting until October to watch it because it’s got some great Halloween atmosphere.

They weren't even trying to make money when it came out. Opening weekend it was in very limited theaters, and everywhere that I saw it listed, it was playing 1 showing per day at like 10PM

Possibly just fulfilling a contractual obligation to release theatrically. Unfortunate if it’s good. I’ll probably VOD this weekend.

Nice, I wanted to give this a shot and being able to see it on Hulu is awesome.

Really like this movie up until the last 15 or 20 minutes. Then it turned into one of the worse movies. The completely ruined all the build up with a internet meme and plot holes the sizes of Texas. Then the movie ends without a real ending.

So, yeah, this was not great. But it’s worth watching for one absolutely hilarious moment where the parents are scolding the boy in the kitchen and the mom’s like, “You’re grounded. Go to your room.” and the dad is like, “NO! …
Spoiler:
You’re going in the basement!”
And then turns around, grabs the refrigerator, and slides it to reveal a secret door, and the kid makes a ‘what the actual fuck’ face, because up until that point, he didn’t even know the basement existed.

Watched on Netflix.

The build up was really good and terrifying. But not showing a clear view of the sister was disappointing. Poor choice to not showcase in full light. I’ll give a C- grade.

“Barbarian” did a way better and fantastic villain reveal.
