Tom Savini's Night of the Living Dead remake. What are your thoughts etc on the movie?

For an early 1990s horror movie even for a remake I thought Tom Savini did a good job with his remake of Night of the Living Dead. First time i saw the movie was when it was on TNTs Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs one time on a Saturday night

He did a good job but the movie felt under budget and bland.

It's been years since I've watched it but I don't remember hating it.

I saw it one time at a friend’s house a long time ago. I don’t remember a lot about it but remember thinking it was okay at the time.

It's fine, but nothing special or groundbreaking. I do think the zombies look cool and remember Savini saying that they studied actual dead bodies and noticed that they all looked jaundiced and yellow-ish due to the chemical reactions happening in them.

The 90s is my least favorite era of horror, because so many of the movies have this same "bland" look/ambience, from Child's Play 2 to People Under The Stairs. The lighting is so flat, and the sets looks exactly like sets, not actual, lived-in locations. They're too professional, like a TV show that does the same set-ups week after week.

The only thing I like about Savini's NOTLD is the changed ending
Spoiler:
dying Ben finding the gas key down in the cellar was a great twist, almost worthy of a Twilight Zone, and vindicates those who feel he was in the wrong, that they should have gone into the basement to begin with

I'll probably add to my October list this year. I don't remember much of it, although I watched it... 10+ years ago

Thought of checking it out but it's only on AppleTV, so that won't happen.

Oh ew. That kills it for me, too.

I was just going by what JustWatch listed. So, it's not 100% accurate.

Not as good as the original, but still decent. One of the main differences that I didn't like in the 1990's version is the characters are supposed to be the same people but they behave different, especially Barbara.

I haven't seen it years, but remember it being pretty decent. I still have my DVD of the film kicking around somewhere.

One of my favorite horror remakes. Just a solid, crowd-pleasing film made for its intended audience. The original is a massively influential classic and rightly so, but I probably pull this out more than the original.

I don’t think I’ve seen this since the mid-90s and only remember a few parts of it. The one thing I do recall is how annoying I found the character of Barbara to be in the remake.
