Living (2022, D: Hermanus) S: Bill Nighy -- Ikiru remake

In select US theaters starting on December 23rd, 2022.

1953. A London shattered by WWII is still recovering. Williams (Bill Nighy), a veteran civil servant, is an impotent cog within the city’s bureaucracy as it struggles to rebuild. Buried under paperwork at the office, lonely at home, his life has long felt empty and meaningless. Then a shattering medical diagnosis forces him to take stock – and to try and grasp fulfillment before it goes beyond reach.

Ikiru is great. Nighy seems like the perfect actor for this, if it has to exist. I'll watch it.

Yeah I saw Ikiru when i was young but really enjoyed it. I'm a huge Bill Nighy fan and I think he does great in these "tragic lonely guy trying to make things right" roles. So that, it being an Ikiru remake, and the post WWII setting seem a perfect mix for me to enjoy.

I see this is starting to play in some of my local theatres this weekend.

Nighy received a Lead Actor Oscar nomination.

Saw this tonight. Another wonderful British film. This one really gave me the feels. It could be Nighy's best performance ever. And his Oscar nomination is so richly deserved. I also love movie's retro style. Was that scene of Piccadilly Circus at night actual vintage footage or CGI?

I just started this last night. So far so good. Nighy is amazing.

If it weren’t for Fraser’s brilliant performance, I think Nighy wins this. What an utterly tender, moving film.

I don't think a lot of people knew this movie existed it not for Nighy's Oscar nominated performance.

It was not bad though it deals with depressing themes.

I hope after seeing this that people will see Ikiru. Or preferably before seeing this. That’s an all time great, and this remake to me is like remaking Jaws or The Godfather (despite Toho’s involvement and the possible larger audience since it’s in English).
