Iiiiinteresting. I wonder if they'll keep it a more simplified adaptation (and get rid of the reality warper stuff) or if they'll go whole hog.

For my money, probably the best "evil" Superman deconstruction we've ever gotten. I imagine the success of Invincible on Amazon Prime provoked this move. Netflix gives me pause, most of their shows and movie have underwhelmed even when they use A-list talent.

I heard about this comic before, but forgot the concept. All I remember is it's like Superman, but with a twist.

Vaguely similar to the Miracleman comics if you are familiar with them, but set within a broader superhero universe modeled after DC Comics.

It is a great deconstruction, my main concern is not only combining the concepts, but combining them into (what I assume is) one movie.

Basically, "What if Superman wanted to be a great hero, but dealt with realistic people and it eventually got to him and he had enough?"

Re: Irredeemable Incorruptible (Netflix)

I've read both Irredeemable and Incorruptible and find it hard to believe they can be condensed into a feature film. With all the focus on serialized TV now, I'm really surprised that Netflix isn't trying to get a couple of miniseries out of these two titles.

If the filmmakers are actually going to attempt to combine the series into a self-contained story then I can see them doing the thing that Mark Waid avoided.
Spoiler:
Throughout the run of each title, it looks as though Plutonian from Irredeemable and Max Damage from Incorruptible are on a collision course and they do eventually face off. But after their encounter, they go back to their own storylines which get resolved separately. Since we're talking about close to 70 issues of comics, I could see a self-contained movie wanting to streamline things and have the climax just being those two main characters duking it out.

Yeah, I can't see them doing the ending as it was at all, at least not the final panel. And also...
Spoiler:
Isn't it revealed that essentially no one has any shot at beating Plutonian, since he's not a "flying brick", but actually a reality warper?

That panel (actually, the whole epilogue) was just way too on the nose. That was one of the more notable creative decisions that I thought was questionable in the two books.

You're probably right...it's been ages since I read the comics, but what you're saying sounds correct. The plot gets pretty complicated (especially with Irredeemable) so there are definitely things that'll have to get cut for the storyline to be manageable.

Mind you, if Netflix is hoping for a film franchise, I suppose they could start off simply and gradually introduce the other elements, eventually working their way to Plutonian's origin.

I imagine the comic book plot will be heavily streamlined for any possible movie or even mini-series. WB actually did a pretty good job of using most of the main plot for Watchmen in their movie.
