The Complimentary Amazon Thread

If you clicked here to bitch about Amazon, you're in the wrong thread. Go here instead

I just want to be positive instead of so much negativity (especially by one curmudgeonly member). I said I should start this thread and I don't expect it to be as big as that other thread. But, somerimes, good things happen and it's the little things in life. I'll start:

Ordered a pair of dress pants and a smartwatch charger dock. They arrived two days ahead of schedule.

Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

I honestly can't remember the last significant issue I've had with Amazon. It usually works just as I want it to or better.

Agreed. The occasional time I must return something for whatever reason, it's dead-easy. Other than a few minor website-interface and delivery gripes, I have no issue with the customer experience at Amazon.

Their overnight shipping works far better than it should in theory. It's the best thing about Amazon.

For the last few months some of my orders been arriving earlier than expected. It's like Amazon for me have stepped their game up. Also no major issues at all, some minor which amazon has more than made up for it.

Hard to beat that for coast-to-coast. We have fulfillment centers in the area so I've had same day service. Most of the time, next day. I know I'm luckier than most. After I post this comment, I'm about to order something else for delivery tomorrow.

Plus I use AmazonSmile, so each time I purchase certain items they contribute to a local veterans charity.

Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

One thing I noticed with Amazon is shipping to a P.O. box will significantly slow down delivery time by 2-5 days in the same zip code. If I want an item delivered to my p.o. box for safety reasons, the delivery date will almost always be further out than having the same item delivered to my home address,

I wonder if that has something to do with GoogleMaps. But 5 days does seem high.

I'm guessing if it's a p.o. box, they can't use their own drivers to deliver it directly to a physical address, so they have to get the package entered into the postal system at some centralized location near the delivery address, which results in USPS having to handle the package for a few days.

I love the pick up box option they have. There is an Amazon right around the corner from my house and sometimes I don't like having shipments sent to my porch when I'm not home. So that's a great benefit having sent to a secure box that I can pick up going to or from work.

That's one of those Amazon locker things?

I've never used one. Haven't ever needed one i guess. How doe sit work? I'd be a little concerned with the size of some of these overpack boxes that Amazon uses that it wouldnt fit in the locker. What do they do in that case?

When you place an order, it will tell you if it’s too oversized or not.

Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

I use the Amazon Locker all the time but you know what is even better? Amazon hub at the Amazon Food Market. They will hold your item for close to two weeks whereas Locker is 5 days. I use hub whenever I know I have to head to the city, that is usually where most of the locations are.

Oh one more thing, sometimes there can be conflicts with Amazon Locker. In some cases where the deliverer could not deliver your package to the locker because no space was available. Sometimes you will also find your package in the locker with someone else's package inside. It's not 100% safe proof. It's happened one or two times which isn't bad considering the hundreds of items I buy at Amazon on weekly basis sent to locker.

Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

Not to belabor the point, but will amazon reroute your package to the next nearest locker if the one you selected is full?

I'm still wondering why Amazon needs to get a free thread? Aren't all threads free here?

If all the lockers are full at a certain location when you place your order, you will have to select an alternate location. These lockers are all over the place, so it's not hard to find an alternate and convenient location.

Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

Another thing...if they couldn't make delivery because the locker you chose is full (it happens quite often) they will try delivery the next day. They won't deliver to a different locker location other than the one you chose.

I've never used the lockers yet, but if I was on or going on vacation and I needed a specific item, I could just ship it to a locker in the area where I would be vacationing. That way I wouldn't have to worry about it not getting to my house before I went on vacation or if I need something while I was there, it wouldn't be too hard to receive it without having a physical address to send it to.

That is one instance where I would use it.

They don't ask you to provide photos if you want to make a return.
