Looks interesting, though I came in her thinking it was an Almost Famous sequel.

Not sure how much I like Damon with that weird southern accent. Almost as grating as hearing a Boston accent from someone from outside the state.

Could they make Damon look any more of a southern stereotype? Jesus Christ

Kinda weird.. is the story influenced by the Amanda Knox case?

The wiki page says it is, but that statement is based off loose comments in a 1 star review of the movie from The Guardian.

It’s not like an adaptation of the story, but it clearly seems influenced by as a starting point.
“I was riveted by that case and there was inspiration there, but if you put too much emphasis on that it’s not accurate,” McCarthy said over Zoom last week. “This is obviously a very different scenario.”

Amanda on twitter posted a lengthy tirade. This was the first tweet:
You can search for it, if you so desire.
Does my name belong to me? My face? What about my life? My story? Why does my name refer to events I had no hand in? I return to these questions because others continue to profit off my name, face, & story without my consent. Most recently, the film #STILLWATER.

I read the thread. She makes 10,000 excellent points. I'm not seeing this movie.

While I do agree with Amanda Knox that her name/story is used to promote movies, books or shows she can't have it both ways. Being part of a Netflix documentary with her name as the title, having a podcast, publishing a book, she's not really trying to stay out of the limelight. I know she used the money to pay legal fees, but if she doesn't want to be a public figure, don't be a public figure. She also mixes a lot of arguments. She is correct, in saying she wasn't responsible for anything regarding the murder. She was a victim, too. But the producers of Stillwater aren't responsible for every review and if Tom McCarthy is inspired by her story and uses it as a starting point, he has no obiligation to talk to her, since he is not telling her story.

Nobody tell Knox that Law and Order has been using Ripped from the Headlines stories for over 30 years.
Im not sure I have much interest in this. If not for the presence of Damon this would look like a Lifetime movie to me. If theyre not using Knoxs name or referencing her in any way, Im not sure she has much room to complain. If I were the filmmakers, Id chill out on mentioning her name during the promotional tour though.
I obviously havent seen the movie but I suppose the legitimacy of Knoxs complaint would depend on whether Damons daughter turns out to be innocent or guilty in the movie. If the latter, I can see how she may be more upset.
Edited: I just read a couple spoilers

I am assuming that this is a wholly fictional movie that was loosely inspired by the Amanda Knox situation.
Writers have done this for ages.
Ive not been following this too closely, but I would presume that the producers of the movie arent loudly hyping the Amanda Knox connection, and that the movie has the standard disclaimer about being a work of fiction and any resemblance to real people is coincidental, yadda, yadda, yadda.

I saw it last night. The movie is way more about the father than anything with the daughter. There are periods of the movie where you forget the daughter in jail is even a part of the movie, as Damon's character is building a new life for himself. It is not a "thriller" like the studio marketing would have you believe.

It may be too difficult for me to suspend disbelief on this one, no matter how good the film might be otherwise.

I don't think this is a spoiler since it doesn't involve anything to do with the plot of the film itself... It's just something mentioned in the movie that was nagging at me so here it goes.
So Damon's character in the movie says he didn't vote for Trump because he was a felon and couldn't vote...
But then later in the movie when asked about guns, he admits he owns a shotgun and a glock.
Wouldn't he not be able to have any guns as a felon if he couldn't vote? Seems weird to me to disallow him to vote but still allow him to own guns.

He probably doesn't legally own those guns.

If you get arrested for whatever, felony, anything, some states don’t take voting privileges away. Most do, which personally I think is unconstitutional. Even if at capitol riots, still think u have right as an American to vote. You might be a total scumbag as evidenced by said Riots, and should be stoned to death, and you will only write in vote for DT, but still a basic right, that I don’t think should be taken away if you commit a bad crime.
