The Tomorrow War (2021, D: Chris McKay) S: Pratt, Strahovski, Simmons

Chris Pratt’s sci-fi thriller “The Tomorrow War” is debuting on Amazon Prime this summer. The time-travel movie, directed by Chris McKay, will land on the streaming platform on July 2.

Amazon reportedly shelled out $200 million for rights to “The Tomorrow War,” which was developed and produced by Skydance Media. Paramount Pictures was originally set to distribute the film.

In “The Tomorrow War,” the world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future, mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among those recruited is high school teacher Dan Forester (Pratt), who teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) to rewrite the fate of the planet.

“‘The Tomorrow War’ will be a global event that will surprise and delight our customers around the world,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “Director Chris McKay has brilliantly crafted this unique, action-packed sci-fi escape that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats and tug on their heart strings with its father-daughter storyline.”

McKay, who made his feature-film directorial debut with “The Lego Batman Movie,” praised the filmmaking team behind the big-budget tentpole.

“I’m so proud of this incredible cast and crew who worked under challenging circumstances to create a unique, original sci-fi action movie…something that’s increasingly rare,” he said. “Watching this team of actors and artisans effortlessly blend action, horror, comedy, and drama was a dream come true for me…and I hope will thrill audiences this summer”

Sounds good to me. I don't know if I'll ever return to a theater. I've been spoiled. =)

If they wanted to win the war, why wouldn't they give 2021 humans 2051 technology, so then we could have another 30 years to make advances? I guess their time travel could be based on multiverse theory, so that wouldn't work, but then why would Chris Pratt go into the future to preserve it for his daughter? It wouldn't be her timeline.

I'm still into it, because it gives me heavy WWZ vibes, but seems like the basic premise was thought up by the kid behind Axe Cop.

First rule of time travel : don't think about time travel.

That looks fun. A fun escapism sci-fi flick. I would have paid to have seen that in the theatre, but since it's coming to Prime video, cool with me.

I've always thought Strahovski was just getting the right break away from being a much bigger star.

This comes out tomorrow. I have not seen or heard any buzz about this at all.

Only 6 reviews. I guess Amazon didn't make this available to most critics for screening early.

If it stays in the ~55% range I'm happy with that. I'm expecting something entertaining that will make no sense. As long as it doesn't get panned I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it, especially since it's "free" to watch.

I hope Sam Richardson has a lot of screen time.

Re: The Tomorrow War (2021, D: Chris McKay) S: Pratt, Strahovski, Simmons

I get strong "Edge of Tomorrow" vibes from the trailer.

I like Pratt and Strahovski and scifi, so I'm definitely in for this.

According to this site, it might be available tonight:
https://amazonadviser.com/2021/07/01...mazon-tonight/
You’ll be able to start streaming the movie tonight. It’ll drop at midnight GMT, but there’s some good news for those in North America. As this is a global release, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to watch the movie tonight, Thursday, July 1, at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.

The earlier release isn’t guaranteed, but it happens more often than it doesn’t. If it’s not available at midnight, keep an eye out up to midnight local.

Just finished it up. There were a few scenes that are groan inducing, but this is top shelf entertainment, even if they did pull an Army of the Dead by homaging every sci-fi film you can think of. The CGI was epic and the creatures were phenomenal. The runs 132 minutes. The Atmos was stellar!

Throw in some "Alien" and "The Thing."

If you have get past some serious eye-rolling, you might have fun with this. I don't know why Betty Gilpin is in this.

Re: The Tomorrow War (2021, D: Chris McKay) S: Pratt, Strahovski, Simmons

Just finished it. It kind of reminded me of Roland Emmerich 90's type science fiction. Sure, it's dumb, but it was never boring IMO. Great special effects and the White spikes designs were good and scary looking.

I liked Pratt and I also enjoyed Strahovski as well.

I give it a C+ If you like old school dumb predictable crowd pleasing sci-fi where you just root for the good guys to kill the aliens, you might get some enjoyment out of this. If you want something to challenge your brain, watch something else.

Re: The Tomorrow War (2021, D: Chris McKay) S: Pratt, Strahovski, Simmons

Yeah, it's a fun, dumb, popcorn movie. The battle scenes were well done. The story is pretty ridiculous. Yvonne Strahovski was good, and it was a nice surprise (to me) to see Betty Gilpin in this, though she isn't given much to do. I also loved the guy from Veep, because he was essentially playing his Veep character again, but in an alien apocalypse.

Given the nature of the story, there is plenty of opportunity to make a sequel or prequel if this is popular.

IGN gave this a 3/10. They REALLY didn't like it.

They should read this thread, instead. Reviews are basically: "Stupid and ridiculous, not very good, definitely recommend!"
