Best New Order album

I didn't include any best of or greatest hits like "Substance", studio albums only. I loved everything they did from 83-89, and was torn because "Technique" is a true masterpiece. But I'm going with "Power, Corruption & Lies". "Music Complete" was a roaring return for them too.

Re: Best New Order album

Is that your best-to-worst order? New Order was always more of a singles group for me, they never had the album to album consistency of Joy Division. But my order would probably go something like...

Power, Corruption & Lies
Technique
Low-Life
Brotherhood
Get Ready
Republic
Movement
Waiting for the Sirens' Call
Music Complete

No, it's the order that each album was released. And you rate "Music Complete" their worst?

Completely agree. I don't have a favorite NO record, just ones that have a few amazing songs. Certainly not a band like DM, where the whole (older) album is a complete experience.

But if I were to choose a favorite, it'd have to be Brotherhood or Low Life.

For me Movement is their best and of course it's because it sounds like Joy Division. Next for me would be Power, Corruption & Lies.

I see what you're getting at and I almost agree, but I would argue that Power, Corruption & Lies bridges the gap between Joy Division and New Order perfectly.

Exactly! I had a friend in the 80's who was also a huge New Order fan and when "Technique" came out, he absolutely hated it. He felt it was too slick way too dance oriented. He revisited the album a year later and said his first impression was wrong. He still preferred the sound and style of their previous work, but recognized it's greatness.

I still have "∑(No,12k,Lg,17Mif)" on heavy rotation. Especially this song. Just brilliant!
