Firefly: The Complete Series - 11/11/08

According to highdefdigest, Firefly: The Complete Series is coming on Sept 23rd:

Now, in an early announcement to retailers, the studio has scheduled a complete series set of 'Firefly' (the show ran for only one season) on Blu-ray for September 23.

There are no supplemental details available as of yet, but early retail listings indicate tech specs featuring 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and an English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track.

An official press release is expected shortly, so we'll certainly keep you posted as further word comes to us.

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray has been set at $89.95.
I'd like to have this show in HD, but personally it's tough to swallow the $90 MSRP when I only paid $20-something for the DVD set. Definitely I'll be waiting for a good price on this one.

With an MSRP of $90, it'll probably sell for about $55-$60 at Amazon... still to high for my blood.

But if I were to get it as a gift, I wouldn't complain!

Yep, about $40 too much in terms of MSRP.

Hmm. Probably 4 BD50 discs...seems about right. I'd pay a $100 easy for this set so price is not an issue for me. Love Firefly!

I've never even seen this show before, but is it worth a shot? Even if it is just DVD?

If you like sci-fi, yes. If you don't like sci-fi, rent the first disk and see if you might like it.

Err... I wouldn't say too much sci-fi. More like a western set in the future.

I'll pick this up when the price comes way down.

You don't need to be a fan of Sci-Fi to enjoy the show.

I was coming in here to say I will now buy a Blu-Ray player, but then I saw the MSRP. I'm still out.

Didn't they do a ton of new extras for this release? Depending on the suppliments, I might fork over $50 or so for this set. Hopefully a Universal announcement of Serenity on Blu-ray will come soon as well.

Great to see Firefly getting a Blu-ray release, but I'm with the rest of you guys: that MSRP seems awfully high. I'm sure there will be some good sales on it, though. Regardless, eventually this will be mine; however, I just might have to stay patient for a good price.

I'll definitely pick this up, but a $90 list price is inexcusable for a 15-episode series. Fox strikes again.

Serenity has a tentative release date for October, so it shouldn't arrive too long after Firefly. Though I'll probably skip the Serenity Blu-ray as I already have it on HD.

I might be tempted to double-dip if they upgrade the audio to DTS HD-MA and include the additional extras from the most recent DVD release.

I'd say that's exactly what will happen. At least the dts HD MA audio part.

We can at least keep our fingers crossed that the new extras will be ported over.

$90 for 14 episodes of a series whose VFX were all rendered in Standard-Def, and whose video quality will distractingly jump between HD and SD anytime there's a CGI element in the shot? Seriously, $90?

$62.95 at Amazon. Yup, it's a bit pricy for me as well.

You don't think they'll re-render the CG? This isn't Babylon 5; they won't have lost the original data and it doesn't cost a fortune to do it anymore. Who knows, maybe that's why they're charging so much for it.

They should bundle Serenity with it because it takes place after the series.

Two different studios. Fox owns the series, Universal the movie. Not gonna happen.

I'd pay up to $50 ONLY if the video was significantly better than the DVD and it had new extras.

Otherwise I'll probably just keep my DVD set.
