Shoot "Em Up has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen

Rented it last night because I like Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti but the whole movie was a giant Sin City wannabe-esque mess. I'm still unclear on what exactly the plot is and the ending was well atrocious. No wonder New Line was taken over by Warner who ever greenlit this should be immediately put on the street. Mr. Giamatti you have disapointed me.

I just rented this the other night as well and couldn't believe how bad it was.

Actually, after it was over I thought maybe it was so bad that it was actually good. I later decided it was just bad.

Truly a disappointement when you think about what could have been...Owen as the good guy, Giamatti as the villain, Bellucci as the love interest, a hard 'R' rated action movie...

This was one of my favorite mvoies of the year. How could you watch/rent a movie called "Shoot 'em Up" and not get that it was supposed to be a wildly over-the-top action film?

Yeah, except I wasn't expecting completely unlikable characters and such tasteless "humor." Wow, feeling a dead woman's breasts...hilarious.. I was rolling with laughter! (sarcasm)

the act of feeling a dead woman's breasts isn't funny. the fact that the character thought it was a fun and exciting thing to do is funny.

I guess I just have a different idea of entertainment than most here... if I had to do it over I would've just gone to the gym or gone to bed early, rather than put myself thru 90 minutes of junk.

Just curious - who here also liked Chuck & Larry?

It's called a sense of humor, something you obviously should look into.

Shoot "Em Up is one of the funniest movies of 2007.

To recap for of the movies mentioned in this thread and how I feel about them..

Shoot Em Up was a truly awful piece of shit film. Over the top is usually fine with me but within 5 minutes of the film starting I knew I had made a mistake renting it.

Smokin Aces was pretty cool. I enjoyed most of the cast and thought it was fun film I have to buy later on down the road.

Chuck & Larry was funny and better than a few previous Sandler movies. The female eye candy was a great way to keep viewers watching.

I think it's one of the best satires I've seen in years. Totally insane and wonderful fun.

I hated Shoot Em' Up and am glad to see that others agree. In fact, it may have been the worst film I saw last year. Stupid "plot", unlikable characters and action so "Xtreme" that it was boring. I'm sick of people giving it a pass just because of the title...it's still a shit movie. If you want to see a good action movie with stuff that blows up rent Die Hard. Shoot Em' Up is the movie equivalent to watching fireworks go off on the 4th of July. At first it holds you attention, but after two minutes of the same crap you just go back in the house.

Smokin' Aces - I enjoyed this movie enough the first time I saw it, but will probably never watch it again.

Chuck and Larry - Bad as expected.

Agree, watch it again...

But that is the state of opinions and generally stimulates good conversation on the board, I probably dislike something you thought was cool or great as well....

I couldn't even get throught the whole movie of Chuck and Larry...that is one of the worst movies ever made.

Shoot Em' Up was ok. I didn't care much for the characters or plot, and while some of the action was cool, for some reason I just didn't have "fun" with it.

For reference:

Crank - Loved it.
Smokin Aces - Rented it a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it quite a bit.
Chuck and Larry - Had some funny moments. I didn't think it was that bad.
